In the not-too-distant future, Earth is home to various alien races. Thus, to keep the peace, an interstellar law enforcement agency known as Space Patrol Delta, or SPD, has established an academy on the planet. Three young members of its B-Squad cadets, Sky, Syd, and Bridge, each with genetic abilities and a desire to become a Power Ranger like those on the A-Squad, are assigned the task of arresting a pair of "Robin Hood"-like teens, Jack and Z, who turn out to also have genetic powers! As Troobian Emperor Gruumm, SPD Commander Anubis "Doggie" Cruger's old enemy, plots to bring his armies to Earth, the struggle between the B-Squad and the pair of thieves ends up interrupted by the intervention of Troobian cyborg soldiers, called Krybots!moreless
Sydney "Syd" Drew, Pink S.P.D. Ranger
Jack Landors, Red S.P.D. Ranger
Schuyler "Sky" Tate, Blue S.P.D. Ranger
Bridge Carson, Green S.P.D. Ranger
Dr. Katherine "Kat" Manx
Elizabeth "Z" Delgado, Yellow S.P.D. Ranger
During their second meeting, Sky confronts Jack solo but the fighter's face can be seen and it is clearly not Chris Violette.
The building the three B-Squadders fight Jack & Z in front of has a sign reading "centre", improper spelling for a show intended to take place in the USA.
When Bridge, Sky, and Syd meet up with Jack and Z a second time, Sky is unable to pull off his second glove.
The hands of the alien Jack & Z get the particle accelerator from are green like his head at first, but when he jumps over the wall, they turn into a normal human's.
(Kat demonstrates the SPD Morphers to the cadets)
Kat: Boom... guilty or innocent of eating the last slice of chocolate cake today?
Boom: Me? I, I...ha ha ha! Uh...no. No, no, I didn't.
Kat: The scanner reads body temperature, pulses and electrical impulses and renders a verdict. Guilty.
Kat: And it does not make mistakes.
Boom: Okay, I'm guilty. But it was just a piece of cake!
(Kat zaps Boom into a confinement card)
Z: What are you going to do to us?
Bridge: It's actually quite fascinating. We're going to blast you with anti-matter fusion, that will reduce you to (Holds fingers close together) approximately this tall and this wide, simalteneously placing you in a containment card. You'll then shipped off for filing, until your time is served.
Z: I think I liked it better when I didn't know.
Jack: Now did you see how much those people appreciated what we gave them?
Z: Yeah, it kind of gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling ... that I hate so much.
Syd(About A-Squad): Did you see the size of them? Even the girls are massive.
Bridge: Perp at two 'o clock! (Syd strikes a battle pose) Thats nine 'o clock, Syd.
Jack(To Z clones): Good work, Z. Good work, Z. Good work, Z!
Cruger: Cadets, I trust you have enjoyed your training here at the academy?
Syd: Now that you mention it, flourescent lighting gives me a bit of a headache...
Syd: ...Yes, sir.
Sky: Boom! Clean up your mess!
Boom: Yes, sir! Sir...which mess?
Sky: Start with the last one you made, and work backwards.
Syd: Oh...I get it. All we have to do is stop blaming, criticizing, and judging each other?
Bridge: You forgot to mention failure to bring in suspects.
Syd: Right. Let's see, that puts us right on the schedule to be rangers around...never.
Sky: You're both accused of stealing and distributing stolen goods.
Jack: Can you prove it?!
Bridge: Actually, yes we can.
(Bridge is trying to reason with Z.)
Bridge: Listen, I think we should go about this, in the smoothest and most respectful way possibly, each valuing each other's humanity and dignity and-
*He gets cut off by Z's spinkick, which he ducks*
Bridge: Or not.
(After Bridge beat Syd in rock paper scissors.)
Bridge: Yes! 55 times in a row! *imitates the roar of a crowd*
Syd: Okay, enough! I'm offically bored to tears!
Z: Why do the nuts of the world always seem to find you?
Jack: Just lucky, I guess.
Anubis: Cadet, if I was to appoint Syd as Red Ranger, would you follow her into battle?
Sky: Sir, she's a girl.
Anubis: Or Bridge?
Sky: I like Bridge, but in all honesty, sir, he's not a leader.
Anubis: I see...Thank you for your honesty, cadet.
(After Sky, Bridge, and Syd are beaten by Jack and Z.)
Bridge: That went well...
Narrator: In not-too-distant future... Earth has become a haven for all alien races who come from the farthest reaches of the galaxy to live in peace. 99% of the newcomers live in peace. But for the 1% who can't... there is Space Patrol Delta- The new breed of police to bring them in.
The containment cards say "Guilty of" and then feature a barcode, which is probably how crimes are sorted by in the future.
The SPD morphers have three settings: Change (Morphing), Phone (Communication) and Judge (Judgement mode).
Executive Producer Bruce Kalish, honoring himself by denoting this as being his first season in charge of the show, dictated all episodes of PRSPD had to have one word titles.
The genetic powers of the five teens makes this the third Ranger team in a row to have special abilities when unmorphed. These are: Jack, intangibility (can walk through walls); Z, replication (can create hologram-like clones of herself); Sky, forcefield creation; Syd, alloy duplicating skin (her fists change to whatever metal she's gripping); and Bridge, psychic aura sensitivity (can track where a person has been).
Sky, Bridge, and Syd have been training for two years; Jack and Z have been aiding poor aliens for five.
Available in North America on the "Power Rangers S.P.D.: Joining Forces" DVD and VHS.
The villain's main footsoldiers for this season, Krybots, are created from a small silver, holed sphere, similar to their heads.
Bridge's comment about the A-Squad's aura's being "off" will eventually be elaborated upon in "Resurrection".
Emperor Gruumm is the first head villain not to originate from Earth since PRLG.
The name of the production company handling the series changes from Village Roadshow KP Productions Limited to Ranger Productions, Inc. with this episode.
Episodes (at this point) still make their world debut on ABC Family, in its JETIX line-up. Debut on Toon Disney's JETIX block was February 7, 2005. Debut on ABC Kids was February 26, 2005.
Just before Jack throws the particle accelerator away, one of the aliens has the same head of MMPR villain Baboo, right down to the monocle. Aliens with Rocketron & Teksa's heads, and ones identical to PRTF's Univolt and Conwing, can be seen in the Parkington Square scene.
None of the B-Squad Rangers appear morphed in this episode.
The A-Squad SPD Rangers have modified helmets of the Space Rangers (with Black repainted Green).
POWER RANGERS S.P.D. begins with this episode.
According to the ABC Family promos, this series takes place in the year 2020. But the episode "Messenger (1)" officially claims it to be 2025.
First Power Rangers series to have regular Pink and Green Rangers since PRTF. Similarly, A-Squad's Pink Ranger is the first KNOWN Pink to not have a skirt when morphed. Syd, as seen next episode, is the second.
Chief Anubis Doggie Cruger : Anubis is the Egyption God of Death. In legend he was said to have the body and stature of a man but with the head of a dog which makes it a fitting name for Commander Cruger as he is a humanoid/canine alien creature who fits the appearance of the ancient God.
