I well recall a certain creature who once angrily hissed: "I wouldn't want to be a Power Ranger anyway" as one of her schemes had backfired. Astronema, who had kidnapped Space Ranger Ashley and had one of her monsters disguise herself to look like a Ranger, was once a cunning devious vixen who was always eager to destroy her enemies. I must admit that I wasn't willing to give Karone a chance when I saw her return. Even the Andros/Karone flashback did little to sway my stone cold heart towards the former Princess of Darkness. Let's not forget people, it wasn't Darkonda that made Astronema create the diabolical Psycho Rangers and it wasn't his fault that she delighted in menacing the rangers when she gleefully said "We'll destroy the whole planet if we have to". It was all Astronema. The one thing I never really grasp last season was the whole Karone persona. Granted, Karone was the name Astronema would have been called, had she not been snatched away... but I had always felt that the writers were confusing the viewers with the whole "oh shucks, you know, my brother just told me that I am Karone so I might as well be her" crap. It always left the viewrs, at least this one, with the question of Who is Karone? I know everyone said she's Andros' sister but then, who exactly was Astronema? Was she the programmed evil of Karone? Or was she Karone who had learned wickedness so well that she was able to command thousands of Quantrons and went on to become Divatox's successor? Whoever she was, I am convinced that, after watching this episode, Astronema is no more. Never again will the citizens of Earth have to worry about the terror that was Astronema. Her interaction with the fallen warrior, a man she wronged years ago, not only broke the stone that had trapped him, it also shattered the stone encasing my heart. It was a very emotional scene, in which she deeply expressed her sorrow for the things she had done. This wasn't Andros' sister claiming sympathy for a messed up childhood. This wasn't someone hiding behind the "I'm Karone now so all my wrongs are magically made right" banner. This was Astronema acknowlegding a crime she had committed in the past and genuinely felt regret. With deep sadness in her voice, she had attempted to atone for her sins and that act of redemption was the point where Astronema had become the person she was supposed to have been all those years, the person Darkonda had robbed her of being: Karone.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Ecliptor is the "twisted shoulder" second form, which he didn't gain until after "Save Our Ship". He should have been the normal shoulder, caped version.

    • Leo has his Lights Of Orion armor on when becoming the Red Armored Ranger, such a thing wouldn't be possible without the other Rangers going Orion-armored as well.

  • QUOTES (1)

  • NOTES (7)

    • There is no Zord action of any kind in this episode.

    • The footage in Karone's flashback of Young Andros, Young Karone, and Darkonda comes from PRiS' "Never Stop Searching" and "Flashes of Darkonda".

    • Astronema wears the bright purple wig she wore when she first appeared back in "From Out Of Nowhere (1)".

    • Melody Perkins as Karone is added to the opening credits with this episode. She doesn't replace Valerie Vernon's credit, but instead joins Russell and Amy at the end area with nothing shown to indicate she's a Ranger (this crediting situation, as per SAG rules, meant less money than the regular cast, and was a point of contention for why Patricia Ja Lee quit).

    • Karone's reviving of the Warrior with her tears is just like how her brother Andros revived her back in "Countdown To Destruction (2)."

    • This episode features the debut of the Red Armored Ranger armor for Leo, this year's version of the Battlizer power-up.

    • The flashback to when Karone as Astronema turned the Warrior to stone, includes a non-speaking cameo by Ecliptor.
