Zordon estimates that the pig will have consumed the world's food supply in 48 hours. Considering how long it was taking him just to get through Angel Grove, even 48 years would be a stretch.
Because this episode was aired out of production order, the Rangers have their weapons. However, the Rangers don't get their weapons until "Teamwork." So kids in America saw the Rangers use their weapons in this episode, then saw them get their weapons two episodes later!
Right before the Rangers morph, they're holding food in their hands, but immediatly after they morph, the food is not in their hands anymore. Also, when the food appears in the Rangers hands again, the food looks slightly different from the way it appeared in the Youth Center. This has to do with the usage of Sentai footage to show how the Rangers got their Power Weapons back.
Rita: (witnessing the food fight) Food fight? I'll give 'em a fight for their food! Finster! Finster! (heads into Finster's workshop) Finster: (looking through a book) Yes! That should do! (sets the book aside and goes back to his work) Now let's see... (Squatt and Baboo are trying to see what's happening.) Baboo: (pushing Squatt aside) Move! I can't see! Rita: Finster, I want you to make me a monster, but not your usual. This one has to be special. Finster: All my monsters are special. Rita: Arrrrgh! Finster: Oh, sorry, my queen. Rita: I want a Pudgy Pig. Finster: I have a Pudgy Pig, my queen, but it's not my best work. Rita: (shouting) Then make it your best work! Finster: (scared) Uh, right. (puts the Pudgy Pig model into the Monstermatic) Rita: Make sure he has a big appetite. I want him to eat all the food on Earth. Finster: Yes, my queen.
Rita: This is working out better than I planned. He's eating everything in sight! (laughs; looks through her telescope to see the pig in action) Finster? (to Baboo and Squatt) Either of you fools seen Finster? He's never around when you need him. (Baboo and Squatt shrug) Rita: Finster! Finster, you sap! I need you now! You've got to send the pig to the main food warehouse! (Finster has overheard everything) Finster: My, oh, my. A monster that finally works! (Rita turns angrily to Squatt and Baboo) Rita: Don't just stand there! I need Finster here now, you dolts! You're making me wait! What are you guys waiting for?! GET HIM!!!!! (Squatt and Baboo speak nervously and inaudiably) Finster: I'll just make her wait a little while, then barge in triumphant.
Mr. Kaplan: How ya doin', girls? Trini and Kimberly: Hi. Mr. Kaplan: Looks like the Cultural Food Festival is goin' to be a great success, huh? Trini: Yes. We should raise a lot of money for the preschool and day care center. Mr. Kaplan: (notices a special pastry Kimberly is holding) Oh! What's this? Kimberly: He-e-e-ey, Mr. Kaplan, you have to buy it first. Billy: I believe that one's $20. Mr. Kaplan: Well, I wasn't really very hungry anyway.
(the Ranger teens notice the Pudgy Pig on the Viewing Globe) Kimberly: What a pig. Jason: Man, this dude needs a serious diet! Trini: Ugh. Doesn't he ever stop?! Zordon: The images you see happened just a moment ago. It appears that Rita has unleashed a ravenous pig upon the Earth. It's sole purpose is to eat. Zack: Dang! If this dude keeps this up,... Billy: He'll eventually eat everything! Zordon: I calculate he will consume the entire supply of food on Earth in 48 hours. This pig must be stopped. Kimberly: Look at that thing. It is so gross.
(Bulk, Skull, and their fellow bullies are preparing the cream pies, while Skull is searching for a certain pie) Bulk: What are you waitin' for, dolt?! (Skull reacts, then takes one of the pies, and takes a little taste from the cream, much to Bulk's dismay) Bulk: We're not going to eat them, numb-Skull! We're going to throw them! Skull: Oh. Bulk: Spread out.
Rita: The Power Rangers' weapons went down the hatch! Finster: Of course! That Pudgy Pig is the best monster I've ever made! I just can't wait till he defeats the Power Rangers for good!
Kimberly: Oh, hi, Mr. Kaplan. Look, we're really sorry about what happened. Mr. Kaplan: Look, I know you kids weren't responsible. Now, we almost have enough money for the playground equipment, despite all this. Trini: With a little help, Mr. Kaplan, we can make up for the rest. Mr. Kaplan: (sees the hero sandwiches) Let's see what you got here. I'll take this. Trini: Itt'll cost you $20. Mr. Kaplan: $20? Trini: For the playground equipment? Mr. Kaplan: Okay. I'm starving. In all this craziness, I didn't eat lunch today. (he gives Trini a 20 and takes a bite out of one of the heroes) Billy: Oh, no, not that one, Mr. Kaplan! It's a little bit... (Mr. Kaplan swallows, then reacts) Mr. Kaplan: Oh! Water! I need water! (Kimberly hurriedly hands him a pitcher of water, and Mr. Kaplan drinks it, but most of it ends up on his head) (the teens are surprised) Mr. Kaplan: Little hot... But not bad! (they all laugh)
Rita: (after Pudgy Pig is destroyed) You nincompoop! Your monster was worthless! Finster: But I warned you, he wasn't my best work! Baboo: (to Squatt) This is all your fault! I don't know how, but you always mess everything up! Ya do! Finster: Now, now, my queen, please don't yell at me, and turn me into a toad or something. Please, my queen! I beg you!
Mr. Kaplan: (after getting splashed by the punch during the food fighht) AHH! OOH! That is IT!!! (everyone in the Youth Center stops) Mr. Kaplan: (wrings out his toupee) Ohh. Look at this mess. Our food festival is ruined! (he turns to the teens) Mr. Kaplan: Oh, and you should be ashamed of yourselves. I only hope we have enough money to pay for the playground equipment! Jason: But, Mr. Kaplan, we... Mr. Kaplan: Oh, I don't want to hear any excuses! (he throws a broom to the teens; Jason catches it) Mr. Kaplan: Here. Here, you're in charge of the clean-up. (he storms off)
Ernie: Where are the Power Rangers when you need them?!
Mr. Kaplan: This is just what I like to see. Good, healthy, community spirit. Bulk: (from across the room) This is just what I like to see. A bunch of goody-goods about to get creamed...by pies, that is!
Rita: Oh, Baboo, I feel terrible. Baboo: Oh, no, evil one! You can't be sick! Rita: Don't tell me I can't... 'Cause I am, you dolt! Baboo: Yes, yes. Of course you are, your badness. Squatt: Hey! I've got somethin' to cheer you up! Rita: Cheer me up? Move outta the way and let me see. (she looks through her telescope and sees the festival at the Youth Center) Rita: Ugh! Food! Now I really feel sick! Get rid of it! Get rid of it!
Rita Repulsa: How can anyone conquer the world with a bunch of nitwits!?
Bulk: Fire! (Skull uses his spoon as a slingshot, and shoots something somewhere, until...) Ernie: Hey! Don't just stand there, you clowns! Gimme a hand with these! (Bulk and Skull look at the hula dancers, and grin, and walk up to them) Ernie: Not them, you bozos! Help me carry the cream pies. (he holds up his trays of the pies, and dejected, Bulk and Skull do just as Ernie told them)
Jason: I hope Rita isn't hungry for trouble today.
The story of how the Rangers defeated Pudgy Pig will be retold by Kimberly and Billy in an interview on television, during the Season 2 episode "Lights, Camera, Action."
This is the first time Bulk and Skull run afoul of one of Rita's monsters.
In airing order, Pudgy Pig is the first monster of the day to appear in American footage.
This is the first episode of the show to not feature any Zord action of any kind.
Pudgy Pig will be back in "A Pig Surprise" (and in "Island Of Illusions (1)" as an illusion).
Available in North America on the Power Rangers Power Playback - Classic Ranger Edition - "Blue Ranger" VHS.
This episode was the second to be originally broadcasted, in a special "series preview" slot (though it takes place as 6th, which is also its production order). When the show made its regular daily strip timeslot debut, this episode ran in normal order on Monday, September 13th, 1993.
