Episode Summary

EDIT
With the Gold Ranger powers fading, along with his life energy, Jason is caught between the opposing forces of Rita & Zedd and the Machine Empire, who both want to take control of his powers. To save Jason, Trey is summoned from Triforia to aid in safely reclaiming the Gold Ranger powers, a risky manuever which involves planetary alignment, and may just unify his three halves together again. King Mondo will make this even tougher for the Zeo Rangers, as he and his Cogs face them in the biggest battle of them all! In the end, Rita & Zedd may just have the last laugh. Meanwhile, now official detectives, Bulk & Skull set about to prove themselves by undertaking an international spy mission, which doesn't sit too well with Det. Stone, whose detective agency is dangerously low on business.moreless

  • The whole season is good as gold

This episode is a great send off to a great season. The final fight could have been fleshed out a bit more, perhaps by making this a 2 part arc, but it's a minor quibble. The entire Zeo season is tighter, funnier, and more complete than any of the first three Mighty Morphin seasons. Rita and Zedd and company get a great sendoff. The last scene with Jason feels very authentic because you know those two actors are saying to each other for real.

Personally, i feel the franchise could easily have adopted the 'Dr. Who' format of simply replacing characters and settings as it goes instead of strictly season by season. There's a lot of good characters here that stand to be lost. So it is a bit of a bittersweet moment to move on to Turbo and beyond.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When King Mondo grows the Rangers prepare to call the Zords, but Trey says that "there isn't time". It only took a few seconds to call the Zords beforehand, so why would there not be enough time to summon them now?

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Mondo: Puny Rangers! You'll regret the day you crossed my path!
      Tommy: Like we don't already!

    • Rita: [to King Mondo] We used to be afraid of you, but now you've turned into an intergalactic joke!

    • Bulk: [reading a note] "Meet me in the park at 1400 hours. Signed, I.K." Who's I.K.?
Skull: Obviously someone who can't tell time. There's only 12 hours on the clock!
      Bulk: It's military time, numbskull.

    • (after being blown up by Lord Zedd's "gift")
King Mondo: Hey! Come back here! What kind of present was that?! You haven't heard the last of King Mondo and the Machine Empire!

    • Rita: (to Jason) Personally, I always thought you looked better in red.

  • NOTES (12)

    • Tommy, Kat, Rocky, Adam, Tanya, Jason, Bulk, Skull, Jerome Stone, Zordon, Alpha 5, Rita, Zedd, and Ernie all appear next in "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie". This would be the final time Ernie ever appeared on the show, but he will get a proper write-out in PRT's "Shadow Rangers".

    • This is the second time King Mondo has grown (last seen in "Mondo's Last Stand"), but this is the only time Cogs grow also.

    • The Gold Ranger (who is now Trey again) will next be seen in PRiS' two part "Countdown To Destruction" (though Trey is not seen unmorphed).

    • This marks the final time "The Private Eyes' Have It..." detective agency appears. The next time Jerome Stone, Bulk, and Skull appear in the Turbo Movie, they're all back to working with the Junior Police Patrol, without a clear resolution to where the agency went, or what happened with the "French Spies" subplot.

    • The Pink Zeo Ranger would next appear in "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie", and Red Zeo Ranger in PRWF's "Forever Red" (and within Tommy's mind in PRDT's "Fighting Spirit"), but aside from those two, no other Zeo Ranger power would ever be seen in action ever again.

    • Goldar speaks for the final time in this episode, though he will appear again sans voice, in PRiS' "From Out Of Nowhere (1)" and "Countdown To Destruction (1)". Finster will also appear next, also nonspeaking, in those same episodes.

    • This episode (since the Christmas special was made before it, despite airing afterwards) marks the final appearance of Rito Revolto, thanks to his costume falling apart beyond repair between seasons. His character is never given a proper write-out.

    • Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd depart the series with this episode, though will make a cameo in the Turbo Movie and reappear a few times in Power Rangers In Space (starting with "From Out Of Nowhere (1)", where the Tengas will also appear next).

    • Jason (Austin St. John) departs the series again with this episode, though will return for the Turbo Movie. With his departure, the show officially says goodbye to its last "Original Series Casting" main-cast Ranger.

    • Rocky (Steve Cardenas) does not appear in this episode unmorphed (he's said to be at martial-arts camp for most of the show). This also happened to be the final episode to feature him morphed as a Ranger.

    • This is the final episode of POWER RANGERS ZEO, though the Christmas episode would be the final broadcasted episode.

    • King Mondo and Queen Machina depart the series with this episode, though will reappear a few times in Power Rangers In Space (starting with "From Out Of Nowhere (1)", which is also the Cogs' next appearance). This is the final time Queen Machina is voiced by Alex Borstein, due to her gaining fame a year later, on the series "MadTV". Klank, Orbus, and Prince Sprocket will next appear in PRiS' "Countdown to Destruction" two-parter.
