Episode Summary

EDIT
With his Dark Rangers assembled, Lord Zedd strips the Power Rangers of their Morphers, and releases them back to Earth. Unable to contact the Command Center thanks to the shrinking forcefield enveloping it, all looks bleak for our heroes. Tommy, still powerless and trapped in the Other World dimension, is chased by both both Turbanshell and Goldar! Even if he can find his inner strength, escape, and recover the remnants of his powers, this will be the last battle for the Green Ranger.moreless

  • The end of a hero, and the beginning of a legacy...

    9.1
This episode is what cemented me as a Power Rangers fan, and the episode where Tommy Oliver proved himself to be the greatest Ranger of all time.

His moment of defiance against Goldar is a very powerful scene. When I watched it for the first time as a kid, I thought for a second, "This is the end; he's going to submit." But when Tommy stood up and fought back- without powers or even a prayer of success- I cheered. And I still cheer whenever I see it again. That's why fans love Tommy so much; he's the embodiment of everything the Rangers stand for-Strength, honor, integrity, and detirmination.

Only low part is the crappy Dark Rangers suits!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • In one shot of Turbanshell on television, he had the white face that he wouldn't have until later when frozen by Zack.

    • Despite the fact they would have easily been able to see Tommy, the Dark Rangers made no attempt to stop him reaching the Green Crystal.

    • After Goldar takes over torturing Tommy from Turbanshell, he uses a device to show Tommy clips from his ranger days. A moment or two later you see Lord Zedd talk about his Evil Rangers to Goldar and in the very next scene Goldar is back tormenting Tommy.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Zack: (sprays water on Turban Shell) Let's see how you like my deep freeze!

    • Turban Shell: (getting overheated in the inner shell) That's it! From now on, I'm stickin' to bland foods! OOOH!

    • Turbanshell(To the Red Dragon Thunderzord): Ah, ah, ah! You shouldn't play with sticks like that!

    • Turbanshell: How about a little shell shock?

    • Goldar: Do you even recognize yourself, Tommy? The Green Ranger, always willing to sacrifice, always ready. You must have saved your friends a hundred times, fighting Rita's monsters, you and your DragonZord. Behold the warrior you once were, Tommy! Because it's all over now! Hahahaha! Before I finish you, I want the pleasure of hearing you say I am your superior! Well, Tommy?
      Tommy: Goldar... you are...
      Goldar: Yes?
      Tommy: ...out of your mind!
(Flies up and kicks Goldar down)
Tommy: Your little picture show reminded me of who I really am inside. Not as the Green Ranger, but as me... plain old Tommy.

    • Turbanshell: Fee, fi, fo, fum, I smell something green and dumb.

  • NOTES (7)

    • This episode marks the first time a Ranger battles a monster-of-the-day while unmorphed.

    • Turban Shell will never appear on the show again as we know him. His shell will be ditched, he'll be repainted, given a stinger in his mouth, and a cape, and will appear in PRT's "Fire in Your Tank", and PRLG's "Heir to the Throne".

    • Stunt coordinator Jeff Pruitt once stated that a Dark Rangers battle was planned, but scrapped when the suits (which are nothing more than recolored Z-Putty outfits) proved to be too low quality for what was desired.

    • The last episode to feature original Zyu2 footage of the six Rangers, and the last to feature an original Zyu2 monster (previously used and unused Zord battles of previously seen monsters would show up through season 3).

    • This was the first episode to display effects of Walter Jones, Thuy Trang, and Austin St. John's quitting the show. When morphed, Red, Yellow & Black Rangers are generally silent, save for some recycled dialogue.

    • This was the first episode not to feature Bulk (Paul Schrier) and Skull (Jason Narvy) whatsoever.

    • Tommy (Jason David Frank) loses his Green Ranger powers permanently with this episode. The Green Ranger will manage to return, though, in "Return Of The Green Ranger (1)".
