  • Hello? Anti climatic much???

    4.7
Well, this episode was a big waste of my life. Actually, it did worse than that. It basically ruined my day. I mean, I got all excited about Tommy being evil and the reaction that the guys were going to have when they found out. Yeah. So, it turns out to be "Oh? It's Tommy? That's weird. Next problem." Also, Tommy kicked thier butts. A lot. Over and over for four episodes. And now suddenly they can stand up to him? I doubt it. In addition, Tommy was under that spell without the sword. So why would separating him from the sword do anything to break the spell? It makes no sense and is a major major plot hole. Honestly, I expect plot holes and such from the Power Rangers. I expect that they'll suddenly be able to fight the villain. But the other Green with Evil eps were done so well! And then suddenly this one was awful. I just don't understand how they could have slipped that badly. They ruined a winning streak.moreless
  • This episode is incredibly epic and will always be absolutely a defining moment for me during my youth.

A long time ago when this show was truly fab and I thought the world of heroes in costumes defending the world from evil attacking space alien monsters, this 5-part episode saga taught me that it was truly possible to create an epic within a half-hour show over five different but still connected episodes! :) It doesn't matter if the special effects were really cheesy, or if the villains were big cliches, it doesn't change the fact of the matter that this was a pure story of good versus evil at its very finest, and I will always be thankful that it was this episode that made me realize that a truly great show had to be based on the strength of the story, not on visuals or villains alone. And this story is so strong, that it becomes even greater after joining all 5 episodes together! :!: The fight over the soul of Tommy Oliver takes place between the Power Rangers and the minions behind Rita Repulsa. Despite all the difficulties and obstacles put against them, the Power Rangers prove that there is no length that they wouldn't go to in order to ensure that good prevails over evil! :D That's why this episode rocks so much, because Tommy is freed from Rita's evil spell, and can now use his powers to fight against evil, rather than serve it! 8) So needless to say, I highly recommend this epic masterpiece to anyone interested in action, adventure, or compelling story sagas that depict the ongoing clash of good versus evil! Enough said! ;)moreless
  • Great classic of good and evil.

    10
I remember when I was in Grade 4 and this series was just getting off the ground, how everyone was talking about the Green Ranger Saga. This 5 part miniseries is no passing fad. It is a classic of television telling the story of good and evil. The battles are intense, the struggle great, and all of it told with expert craft. Sometimes watching 20 minute stand alones from this series, I feel like the short length just isn't enough to really flesh it all out. This is a living example of what Power Rangers can be in a story arc. A defining moment for the series, with many more to come. Part 4 and 5 are easily the best, but no part of this series ever seems to fall flat. Jasons battle with Goldar in human form is a classic struggle. Highly recommended. You couldn't ask for more than this in the Mighty Morphin era.moreless
  • The Turning Point

    9.8
This is the Turning point in the show in which Tommy goes from bad to good and breaks the

Spell he was under Rita. As Kim confronts him about this

Early on as they know now who he is. Finally, Jason

Destroys his sword of evilness and that is what breaks the

Spell. The debut of Dragonzoid as well.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • The news report at the Juice Bar features footage of Rita at her palace, which would be impossible for the media to attain.

    • Tommy is shown wearing his Communicator right after the Sword of Darkness is destroyed before Billy even gives it to him!

    • When the spell is broken, the scene, which had been in the mountains, switches to the middle of a sandy beach.

    • After Jason destroys Tommy's sword, Zack says "You destroyed the Power Sword! Rita's spell is broken." He should have said "You destroyed the Sword of Darkness!..."

    • When Jason drew his Blade Blaster, when he was combating Green Ranger, he wasn't seen shifting it to blaster mode.

    • When Jason asked Tommy to give up well in the Dino Megazord, From the Dragonzord Tommy yelled "No Way!" But when he said it, the voice sounded nothing like Tommy's.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Jason: Give it up, Tommy!
      Tommy: No way!
Jason: Sorry it has to be like this, but Zordon says I've gotta destroy your sword to save you, before you and Rita destroy the world!

    • Jason: Tommy, stop! You don't know what you're doing!
Tommy: I'm destroying you! And I'm doing it because my empress commands. Soon, she'll rule the world! (Laughs evilly)

    • Kimberly: Tommy!...Tommy I know...(whispers) I know you're the Green Ranger.
Tommy: Well then Pink Ranger, you should also know that you, and the other Power Rangers will soon be destroyed.
Kimberly: Let us help you, we can break Rita's spell!
Tommy: Rita is my Empress, and she will soon rule the world.
Kimberly: Tommy, please, let us help you!
      Tommy: You, have been warned.

    • Squatt: But Goldar, we haven't seen this Zord in over 10,000 years!
      Goldar: QUIET!
      Baboo: But what if..
Goldar: SILENCE you fools! If she chooses to call forth the Dragonzord, then it shall be called for!

    • Kim: ...And his EYES were glowing GREEN. It was VERY scary.

    • Jason: We're back, and we're ready to morph into action!
Tommy: Six working together to fight evil!
      Zack: And stop Rita!
Billy: And all her menacing monsters!
Trini: From destroying our planet Earth!
Kimberly: And ruling the universe with evil!
Jason: Look out Rita, we're not backing down! 'Cause we're the...
      All: Power Rangers!

    • Kimberly (to Ernie): Have you seen Tommy?

Ernie: He's over there (Kimberly notices him lifting weight; she hesitates but walks over to him)

Kimberly: Tommy.....I know...I know you're the Green Ranger

Tommy (stops): And I know who you are, Pink Ranger, and you and the other rangers shall soon be destroyed!

  • NOTES (5)

    • Debut of Tommy's morphing sequence. While his teammates all shout out their Dinozord's dinosaur name, he instead says, "Dragonzord!", his Zord's full name. Also, the first appearance of his own green-banded communicator.

    • This is the first time that the Mastodon, Triceratops and Sabertooth Tiger Dinozords combine with the Dragonzord to form Dragonzord in Battle Mode, also known as the MegaDragonzord.

    • Final appearance of the Sword of Darkness, though it'll get an unofficial resurrection in "Mighty Morphin' Mutants".

    • Debut of the Dragonzord, the Green Ranger's very own giant fighting machine, and the Dragon Dagger, which is used to summon it.

    • Post-9/11 edits for this episode include the cutting of the scene where the Dragon Zord blasts the Rangers off the rooftop right after the second commercial break.
