Episode Summary

EDIT
No longer having Ranger powers, the former Overdrive Rangers return to their civilian lives. All but Mack, who learns of Thrax's plans to destroy Sentinel Knight, and seeks out the only item capable of doing so, the legendary sword Excelsior. Will he be doing this alone, or can the call of action prove the adage of "Once a Ranger, always a Ranger" to his former teammates? Meanwhile, their replacements, the team of Returning Rangers, head to Angel Grove to seek out the only being capable of repairing the Morphing Grid: Alpha 6! Even if they succeed, can two combined teams of Power Rangers stop Thrax for good, and permanently break up the Evil Alliance?moreless

  • the best for years

this is the best episode of power rangers i have seen for years. i hae not really been watching operation overdrive as i dont really like this season but seeing adam back in action is the highlight. i was a bit worried about how thrax would turn out but when i saw the first episode i thought he was brillaint combining the look of zedd and rita. the end fight was great and seeing adam morph was just the best, its good they changed his morphing sequence as it would not have looked right if they had kept the old one. all in all once a ranger lived up to the hype and was much better than forever redmoreless

This was one episode all Power Rangers fans have been waiting for, a great way to celebrate the series fifteenth anniversary on television. Plus not mention having the best anniversary battle since 'Forever Red' in 2001. This was by far one of the best battle sequences that any one has ever seen and it has been worth the wait to see it. It was great to see the return of Adam, Tori, Kira, Bridge and Xander, a little bit from each season of the Power Rangers: Adam from seasons 2 and 3, Tori from season 11, Kira from season 12, Bridge from season 13, and Xander from season 14. Now we wait and wonder what the producers will do when it comes time for the 20th anniversary of the series. Only time will tell because for now, all we can do is wait and dream of what may come.moreless
  • Well it was a good episode but could of been so much better. Don't you think?

Question?: Why didn't any other evil creature ever think to destory the morphing grid? Also if he really was smart and knew so much he would know that to destroy the power rangers one would have to go find and destroy all like 60 something rangers (yes i counted).

This episode was good but could of been so much better. Though the rangers that returned were great it was such an odd mix of rangers. Also it would of been great to have a ranger from each season like in FOREVER RED. As always the episode had its cheesy lines and cheesyness. Like when after fixed the morphing grid everyone sounded so cheesy. However it was nice with its old quotes and of course this quote, "ONCE A RANGER, ALWAYS A RANGER"!moreless
  • It's not the end of the show, but it's the end for an era of greatness. :(

Watching this episode, it reminded me of Billy Joel's old 1989 song "We Didn't Start the Fire" because it dealt with world history from the mid 1940's to the late 1980's. I'd provide a version for you her but if I did, it would make me write more words than I want to write so let me instead just say this. Every show has its glory moments, and then there are the moments that aren't so wonderful. Take "The Simpson's" for example. The show has been on so long, it just can't help it that the show sometimes repeats itself because it's over 400 episodes old. But you know that when they release a movie for the series, it's a clear sign that it's running out of ideas. "Power Rangers" was different. The ideas didn't end with the movies. But after the seventh season, the "Power Rangers" series found themselves repeating the same themes and to a less successful degree. The show found a reprieve with "Forever Red," but it didn't truly come back to life until Jason David Frank came back as a permanent castmember in "Power Rangers DinoThunder." To me, that season was the last real moment of any sort of glory moments the series had until this team-up special. But now that this special Has occured, it's not likely that there are going to be anymore glory moments for this show ever again, simply because it's run out of juice. I've been proud to be a fan of this show for the past 15 seasons, but the time has come for me to move on as I deserve a better show than this, and so do the other young kids growing up today who don't realize what they missed out on when the "Power Rangers" was a Truly good show, and not just trying to make a quick buck off of short attention spans! Kudos to Adam, Kira, Bridge, Xandir, Tori, and Alpha 6 for giving us one last reason to like this show! Too bad we're never see anything like it ever again. :( Good-bye. :!:moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (8)

    • In previous episodes, Alpha's visor lights would only activate when he was speaking, but in this episode they are active all the time (Even when Alpha isn't speaking).

    • When Mack slashes Vulturus in half and he explodes, large chunks of his body are left as debris, littering the battlefield. Yet he's back in one piece, wandering around the city in the next scene.

    • It's implied that the returning Rangers are repowered permanently, so how does Kira's Dino Gem wind up abandoned and depowered in time for "History"?

    • Alpha 6 is notably taller than in any previous appearance. Before, he barely came halfway up most Rangers chests; now, he's only a few inches shorter than Adam.

    • It's never explained how Bridge came back in time, nor how he'll be going back to the future. It's obviously due to Sentinel Knight's powers, but it's never stated. Not to mention, previous times an SPD Ranger has time traveled, those they met would have their memories erased. Bridge makes no mention of needing to erase anyone's memory here.

    • How and why did Alpha 6, last seen living with the Lost Galaxy Rangers on the planet Mirinoi, end up deactivated and stuck in a crate in Angel Grove?

    • Adam fails to use either his Power Axe's Blaster mode, or his Blade Blaster, when all of the Rangers are using laser attacks on the villains.

    • Bridge's genetic power had a green aura originally, but it seems that changing Ranger colors must have changed the aura color.

  • QUOTES (13)

  • NOTES (23)

    • The powered-up Vulturus is based on PRMF's Titan Megazord.

    • Alpha 6 mentions Zordon, the mentor of the original Power Rangers from MMPR-PRiS. This is also the first time since "Legacy of Power" that he has been mentioned.

    • At the end of the episode, all the Rangers, and Mr. Hartford, put their hands together in a circle and shouted "Go go Power Rangers". This gesture, used many times in MMPR, hasn't been done since season 3, and is modified to reference the MMPR theme song.

    • Flurious uses one of his gyros, first introduced in "Man of Mercury (1)", to power up Vulturus.

    • After last episode's introduction of the physical Morphing Grid, this episode marks the first time we've seen anyone inside it, in this case Alpha 6.

    • The phrase "Back to Action" is referenced for the first time since Power Rangers in Space.

    • With the inclusion of Alpha 6, the only PR seasons to not have some type of representation in this crossover are Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, and Wild Force.

    • Mack's use of Excelsior to defeat Vulturus marks the first time in Power Rangers history that an unmorphed Ranger has defeated a giant monster, and only a slightly less rare occurance of a Ranger defeating a giant monster without the use of a Zord (or Galactabeast).

    • The location of Thrax and the Evil Alliance's base is shown to be on the moon of Onyx, popular villain hangout world from PRiS, PRLG, and PRSPD.

    • This is the first and only time Xander has piloted a Zord, instead of merely BEING a Zord.

    • Thrax mentions his mother and father, Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, and their eventual fates of "succumbing to goodness", referring to the end of "Countdown to Destruction (2)". As a reminder, Thrax didn't end up the same way since he wasn't involved in that battle for unknown reasons.

    • Dax's stunt scene marks the first time since moving to New Zealand the show has actually had a scene take place there.

    • Xander's "Plan Xander" method, and Bridge's love of finger-wiggling buttery toast, are both recurring themes from their respective seasons brought up again this episode.

    • Aside from the Returning Rangers using their standard weapons, Xander uses his Mystic Force Fighters.

    • Adam gets an entirely new Morphing Sequence, which resembles more along the lines of what the PRNS and PRDT teams had, made just for this episode. Bridge also gets a new Morphing Sequence to reflect his new color, though it's along the lines of those seen in PRSPD.

    • The current statuses of the former Rangers is revealed: Adam runs a dojo in Angel Grove (which Alpha 6 will now be aiding him in); Tori makes custom surfboards; Kira is working on a new CD; and Xander still works at the Rockporium.

    • This episode features the first physical (corporeal) appearance of Sentinel Knight outside of flashbacks. This new robotic form, gained from merging with the sword Excelsior, can also turn him into a Sentinel Sword form, which debuts here.

    • Vulturous' voice actor is uncredited.

    • Each of the Returning Rangers uses their special civilian powers, except for Adam, who never had any.

    • This is the first team-up where the returning Rangers operate the current Rangers' Megazords.

    • This marks the first appearance since PRLG's "Journey's End (2)" for Alpha 6, and the third voice actor for the role (not to mention the first male voice actor for him).

    • Adam wears the Defender Vest in this episode, marking a very rare occurance of a former Ranger using a current team's powerup. This is similar to the Omega Megazord using the Lights of Orion in "Trakeena's Revenge (2)".

    • Debuted on Toon Disney on its regular day but a SPECIAL TIME of Monday Night at 8:30pm E&P. ABC Kids debut date: Saturday, August 18 at 12:30pm ET/11:30am PT.
