    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • Daimon says Misao's been in town for about six months.

      • Sounds weird
The Funimation dub does some weird pronunciations that might throw you off but will have to get used to if you want to stick with it.

Sasami - SAH-sa-me, like sesame but with the sah sound. This might be strange for folks who are used to hearing her name pronounced suh-SAH-me as in Magical Project S or the Japanese version.

Ryo-Ohki - Roy-oh oh-key. The Pioneer English dub for Tenchi had typically pronounced it as Rio (as in Rio de Janeiro).

In the Japanese version, Misao's nickname was initially Misa-ppe. The Funimation dub does some other sound like Misa-OH. Not that it matters after this episode.

      • Character Notes
Most of the main characters are introduced in this episode. The ones that aren't obvious include:

Kozue Matsubara and Chiaki Miyazawa are Sasami's buddies. Kozue wears glasses, while Chiaki is the taller girl with the blonde hair.

Monta is Sasami's cIass buddy who does the mirror shoe trick.

Sasami's parents are Ginji and Honoka, just like in Magical Project S.

Ryo-Ohki's gender for the Funimation dub is male, while in the Japanese version it is female.

Sasami refers to herself in the third person in the Japanese version.

    • QUOTES (4)

      • (After Monta explains his mirror in the shoe trick, Chiaki pounds him on the head.)
Chiaki: What do you mean "free examinations?"
Kozue: Pervert is what pervert does.

      • Classmate: Are you sure you don't need to see the nurse?
Sasami: Yeah, all they're going to do is tell me to spit on it.

Washu: You know how lucky you are? A free checkup. You should take advantage.
(Washu looks at Sasami on an examining table.)
Washu: A little spit on it would do the trick.

      • Sasami: Shinohara, which club are you going to join this year?
Misao: Uh. (hides behind her paper)
        Sasami: You should join the…
        Chiaki and Kozue: Pointless!

      • Sasami: Look, it's Shinohara! (runs after her)
Chiaki: What do you think you're doing? She's just gonna ignore you as she always does.
        Kozue: You're gonna catch emo.
