EDIT
Usagi's Everlasting Wish! A New Reincarnation
AIRED:
Sailor Moon arrives in the throne room to challenge Queen Beryl. Under Beryl's orders, Endymion attacks Sailor moon. She refuses to fight and instead pleads with him to remember his true self and their former love. Endymion recovers his memory just in time to block a spear thrown by Beryl and dies in the crumbling throne room as Sailor Moon cries. Queen Beryls flees to Metalia, and they combine their powers to become the terrifying Super Queen Beryl. Calling upon the power of the Silver Crystal, Sailor Moon becomes Princess Serenity, and the final showdown begins. Just as the Super Queen seems to be winning, the spirits of the dead Sailor Warriors surround Serenity and lend her their power. Beryl is defeated in an energy blast that engulfs the entire Dark Kingdom. As Serenity dies, she wishes that everything could be the way it used to be... back when she was a normal teen with no super powers and no great destiny. As the Earth returns to normal, the Sailor Warriors appear as regular humans with no memory of each other or their past glory. Sailor moon's final wish has been granted.moreless

The theme of "Rocky" was always about what more life can be, what more a person can be; that phylosophy is applied in this episode. After that last episode, I felt like crap. It was just a lot to handle, feeling sad for fictional characters death is a very rare thing for me. It's even rarer for a show/anime to actually affect or tug at my emotions, if a work can do that then it's truely powerful.

That last episode even some of this episode sort of reminded me of how I felt when I was 8 when I saw the episodes when both Macgyver and Thomas Magnum had near death experences (I'm not kidding), when that happened to two of my favarate 80's action heroes it really tugged at my heartstrings, I never really guessed those two could actually die, sometimes it still gets me.

That was always one of the other great things about this show how it treats the concepts of both life and death. Most of the time it's never dealt with on a direct and honest level because it seems as though most TV shows and comic books cheat on the concept, where sometimes they could kill a character but then suddenly bring them back, so we wouldn't feel to bad for a character's death because we are reasured they'll be alright. In this show though it holds no guarentees, you can't be sure of anything.

I found this final battle very emotional and moving. Because at this point Usagi show true growth in her character, that ideal person within her is fully awakened and is a reality. She fights first her true love Mamoru control by Queen Beryl. I'll admit after what happened and at this point of the show I began to just plain hate Beryl, she was just a rotten evil soul she doesn't know real love and the way she regards human life, like what she did with her Generals, the Senshi, and Marmou, there was just nothing within her that shows any sign of worthyness for redemption or forgiveness, she had to be destroyed. The fight between both Usagi and Mamoru was brutal because you see some of Usagi's desperate efforts to get Mamoru back turn fruitless. It's almost painful just seeing how Mamoru is beating up his true love without even knowing it. However Usagi does get him back, though probably her best power ever, her love. Love always is the greatest power anyone can have, which can surpass any kind of magic. But unfortunately it was a brief victory when Mamoru the loving soul he is, protects Usagi from an attack from Beryl. His rose of could strikes a fatal blow but unfortunates the big crystal stake that he deflected produced shrapenal that hit him in the back. It was a heartbreak moment once when Usagi heard those final words from Mamoru before he dies, it really made my heart sing just knowing that she finally saved Mamoru her best friend/significant other only to lose her again. At that point she now has nothing to lose it's all or nothing. And it comes down to a spectacular final battle, which was great from the soundtrack score and just seeing the facial expressions on Usagi just really displayed determination and struggle. She once again wins not so much with magic but with the power of love for her friends and Mamoru, when we see the Senshi in their spirtual form for a brief moment become flesh and blood long enough for her to win the battle, which she did but then it cost her Usagi's life.

I'll admit I teared up at that point, I admired her because it just showed how much of a beautiful human being she truely was and the lengths she truely went to protect and fight for what she believed in, that their was good in the world that had to continue to exist.

But also I have to warn you I might be putting it on a bit thick once again but it's the truth all the same. When I saw her in that death state and then seeing some of the others in that same state I thought it wasn't fair, it shouldn't end this way, so what if the world was saved the world doesn't mean a damn thing to me if the people I care about most are gone, I wanted them all back.

In that last part when a ball of light came and Usagi was giving that somber monalogue, I was really hoping just like her that they would come back. And of course we had that ending which I'll admit washed over me like a sweet sense of relief and of course as the saying goes the end of one journey is the begining of a new one.moreless
  • Another touching episode

Usagi witnessed the deaths of the other senshi. Queen Beryl further tortures Usagi by commanding Endimiyon to kill Sailor Moon. Moon Healing Escalation has no effect. Usagi is brutally tortured by Endimiyon. It all comes down to Usagi having no choice but to throw her tiara at her lover. But, in a weakened state, the locket's orgel music frees Mamoru from Beryl's hold and Usagi has her prince back. Too bad Mamoru dies protecting Usagi. You see how much Usagi has grown over the last year as she fights Queen beryl to the death. It gets very emotional the way Toei handled it, especially since they're playing the DALI version of Moonlight Densetsu in its entirety. Ending with a new beginning.moreless

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Naru: (about Mamoru) Hey, wasn't that guy sort of cool looking?
Usagi: How can you say that?! He was so obnoxious!
Naru: Oh, so you say now. You never know. It might have been a fated encounter.
Usagi: Gag! Stop it! I have my own dream!
      Naru: Dream?
Usagi: That's right! That I'll find a cool boyfriend who'll protect me no matter what! That's my dream!

    • Usagi: When I wake up in the morning, a pure white curtain of lace is rustling in the breeze. The cuckoo clock in my room tells me it's seven o'clock and Mama's voice says, "You'll be late if you don't get up!" I'm still half asleep, and I think, "Please let me sleep for 3 more minutes." I'm late for school every single day like clockwork, my teacher makes me stand out in the hallway, and I get failing grades on my tests. The crepes we'd all eat on the way home. We'd gaze dreamily at a party dress in a show window. The little things bring such joy and I'm happy. I wish... I wish I could go back to that kind of normal life. I want to go back.

    • Usagi: Everyone, thank you for giving me courage. Evil beings, in the name of the moon, Princess Serenity will seal you away!
