Episode Recap

The Keep-Fit class ends with Jim about as winded as the women. Meg visits with Erica, who thanks her for the dinner. Erica then tell Meg that she must go to the country to sort through her mother's things. "Going through Mother's dresses", seems to especially upset her. Both Michelle and Henry meet with Tony Morton. The police have now established Michelle's fingerprints at the crime scene and, without the "mysterious old lady", things look worse than ever. Michelle shoots Henry a look. As he leaves, Henry assures Michelle that he'll do what he can. In the laundry, Doreen blows kisses and makes cooing noises at Lori. Vera enters and, sensing a good opportunity, tells Lori to help Doreen at the washer. Erica and James drive down to the country. James wants to sell the family home, Erica does not. Doreen purposely has Lori pour dye into the washer. Gwen brings Erica and James their mother's personal letters. Erica trembles before them, but James insists that she start reading them. The sheets come out of the water a deep blue. Vera yells at Lori and drags her out of the laundry. Erica is frozen over a particular letter. James asks her what's wrong. It is a love letter from their father to their mother. "Spring is here..." and the music plays as Erica reads the thing. Erica is profoundly moved that their parents once loved one another. Lori tells Vera that she didn't know it was dye she had used. Vera is prepared to believe her but advises her to wise up. Lori then meets with Meg for her report. She gives Meg nasty attitude. Meg doesn't understand this and informs Lori that if she is forced to hand in a bad report she could get a very severe sentence. This doesn't seem to register and Lori continues with the attitude. Jim wanders into Michelle's cell. She is moping about her missing witness. Jim agrees to go to the park and look for the woman as well. Judy has words with Doreen in the laundry, then Terry enters and informs Doreen and Bea that they are to have a new cellmate. Bea says it's probably "Some tart on the jungle juice". Terry informs them that its just Lizzie moving back from maternity. Bea smiles, "See, I was right." Erica and James say good-bye to Gwen and to the house. Michelle talks to Bea in the rec room, telling her that she intends to "produce" a witness. Bea thinks its a good idea. Lizzie returns and gets a letter from Sid. He is doing well and living with his family - but not getting on with his son, Gordon. Michelle gets a note from Henry reporting no luck so far. Meg takes Lori to Erica's office, but Lori continues to be unhelpful. Erica sends for Judy. While training some other runners in the park, Henry encounters Amelia Humber, a sweet little old lady who loves watching the athletes. It turns out she has even heard of Michelle's record runs. She use to follow Michelle on the telly, but now its broken and on her pension...the wheels turn in Henry's head. Judy comes to Erica's office and, upon being told of Lori's behavior, sets Lori straight. Lori agrees to cooperate. Lizzie visits Judy and asks what the story is with Lori. Judy can't tell her but thanks her for being understanding and not listening to gossip. Lori has overheard. When Lizzie leaves she tells her mother that she just doesn't understand the cover-up. But Judy will not be swayed. The next day brings heavy rain and the Keep-Fit class is held inside. When the other women tell her she is too old, Lizzie is outraged and goes to change for the class. The women run through the corridors. Lizzie hides out in a cell until they return then comes running in after them, fresh as a daisy and doing leg stretches with Michelle. Henry pulls Michelle aside and tells her he may have a potential "witness". Henry goes straight to Amelia's house and tells her Michelle's story. Amelia feels horribly sorry for Michelle and agrees to the plan - even before Henry insists she receive a new color TV in return. Lori tells Judy that she wants to get even with Doreen. Judy tells her not to be stupid. But Lori has a determinedly stupid look on her face. Michelle calls Henry, who tells her that Amelia will be in the park that night and that she must now get Jim out there even in the pouring rain. When she hangs up, Jim asks her if she is nervous about her trial the next morning. Michelle says she is and makes Jim swear faithfully to look in the park one last time. Lori confronts Doreen in her cell. They are about to come to blows, when Bea breaks them up. Bea tells Lori to get out but Lori holds her ground for a while before consenting. Bea is impressed with her guts - Doreen looks a tad worried herself. Lori goes into the rec room where the weather report issues torrential rain warnings. Michelle is not happy. Bea visits Judy and tells her that she'd better watch her "Piece of young stuff". Judy finally gives in and tells Bea the truth. Bea is flabbergasted and doesn't understand why Judy didn't tell them. Judy tells Bea the reason and Bea tells her that her friends certainly understand giving a child up for adoption. Remembering the Margo incident, Judy becomes very worried for Lori's safety. They dash to Doreen's cell and find Doreen gone. Bea quickly checks the hiding place where Doreen keeps the knife she took from Margo. The knife is gone
