  • Joan arrives on her tour of torture.

Susie leaves Wentworth and moves into a hostel, which is not too dissimilar. Chrissie returns to Wentworth, and she is less than pleased when she gets no sympathy for her sob story. As Steve and Wendy go on a date, rumours circulate the prison that it is he and Meg that are dating. Doreen becomes the runner for Faye, and new officer Joan Ferguson arrives, and instantly finds her cash stash. Here we go guys, the arrival of the Freak, the most notorious officer of Wentworth.... keep your Jocks, Vinegar **** and Cynthia, this one is the meanest screw ever to grace the halls of Wentworth.... A new era has started.moreless
  • Enter The Freak!!!

After losing Vinegar Vera (episode 224), I felt that the episodes in between 224 and 287 struggled without a nasty screw. YTV (UK) dragged this out from April 1991 until December 1992 and it was then a relief to see The Freak arrive. Lucky Central viewers only had a five month wait back in 1989. YTV viewers were treated very badly as YTV were running late with their schedule and cut into the final scene with The Freak searching Doreen and stuck on a Yorkshite Television Presentation over the middle of the scene so that they could have the live ITN headlines immediately after. Their botching ruined one of the finest episodes!!!moreless

    • ITV Yorkshire interrupted the final scene (The Freak capturing Doreen alone in the corridor) in this episode with their Yorkshire Television Presentation caption as they were running late for the ITN Headlines. The episode was broadcast on YTV in October 1992.

    • Over the closing credits, Bill Buckley remarked how "Suddenly, dear old Vinegar Tits starts to look like Mary Poppins" - which ws probably a pretty accurate reflection of most viewer's thoughts!

    • The start of a whole new era for Prisoner as Maggie Kirkpatrick joins the cast as Officer Joan Ferguson.
