Big Bang, Practice picked up

Television viewers, you can put down your axes... for now. Three shows were deemed worthy enough to continue airing today, as networks continue to whittle down their fall lineups by keeping what they like and booting what they don't.

CBS has apparently been impressed enough with its new half-hour comedy The Big Bang Theory to let it stick around. The network today announced that it is ordering a full season of the show, making it the first new comedy to be given a pickup.

The laffer stars Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons as two hapless geeks who couldn't pick up a woman with a forklift. Their dorky worlds are turned upside-down when an attractive blonde moves in next door and befriends them. According to CBS, the show averages almost 9 million viewers per week.

Unsurprisingly, one of the most hyped new shows is also getting a pickup thanks ...

ABC moving Private Practice, Life on Mars

Finally, a scheduling move that actually makes sense! (Maybe television execs are smarter than we give them credit for...nah!) According to an online report, ABC is tinkering with its schedule and will unveil a new primetime lineup early next year with the inclusion of midseason entries. Supernatural, Grey's bolster casts

Supergirl wasn't the only role being filled by a young hottie over the past few days; three other easy-on-the-eyes actresses joined television shows as they prepare their upcoming seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Joining the cast of CW's Supernatural next season will be Katie Cassidy. The actress will come on board as Ruby, a demon hunter who befriends the duo of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles).

Showbiz is in Cassidy's blood, as she is the daughter of musician David Cassidy. The 20-year-old stunner guest starred on 7th Heaven as Zoe, and was featured in a pair of slashers, Black Christmas and When a Stranger Calls.

After appearing in the season three finale of Grey's Anatomy, actress Chyler Leigh will return as a regular character on the medical drama. Leigh plays Lexie Grey, the half-sister of main character Meredith Grey. Leigh has bounced ...

Private Practice is a spin-off of the highly popular ABC series, Grey's Anatomy starring Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery, a renowned neonatal surgeon. After realizing that her life isn't advancing at Seattle Grace, Addison packs her bags and heads off to Santa Monica to start a new life. She reunites with her newly divorced med school friends, Naomi (Audra McDonald) and Sam (Taye Diggs), and joins them in their chic private practice. The series, created by Shonda Rhimes, is produced by ABC Television Studio in collaboration with The Mark Gordon Company and Shondaland Productions. It first aired as an episode of Grey's Anatomy. The episode, titled The Other Side Of This Life, was known as a backdoor pilot. It tested the idea of the show, but also shared the plot with Grey's Anatomy scenes weaving in and out, from which it was spin-off.
