I wanted to like this episode. Earlier episodes have effectively looked at the idea of the cycle of violence and its poisonous fruits. In this case, the abusive father has become the abusive older brother, the mentally challenged younger brother who killed everyone who might bright up the family, the long suffering sister . . . Bailey's line "It's Christmas" was a nightmare cliche from hell. The episode wants to say something about family but can't figure out what.
The big Christmas party at Sam's house in the final scene left me cold; we're supposed to get a sense that this team has become a family; they put the star on the tree and launch into a carol.
The episode never clicked for me - it wasn't a bomb but it was far less than it should have been.moreless
