Old Acquaintance has some nice scenes - Sam in therapy sessions with her mentor (who we met in a previous episode). Other than that, it's a mishmash of cliches undone by a final melodramatic scene.
The Old Acquaintance story is filler. Colleen's murder moves Profiler into Murder She Wrote territory. It's just implausible that someone would commit a murder knowing and FBI profiler is in the house. The rest of the story is cheap sentiment and melodrama - although I do want to give props for at least trying to give Profiler a more traditional murder mystery plot line - a bunch of folks at an isolated mansion a killer among them. It's a nice idea that never gels.
The "explosive" final scene should have been more interesting. Sharon Lesher disguises herself, waits for Sam, confronts her, says, "He'll never love you he loves me," and pulls a knife. Sam whips out her gun. Jack tears up in his white panel serial killer van, orders Sharon in and takes off, with Sam shooting al the while. I wanted to like this episode, I really did. But it never quite works. We don't get a sense of the circle of friends - they remain an anonymous batch of college chums. The Jack and Jill story line has unfortunately settled into a series of repetitive blue tinted scenes.
As this is part one of two parts, I can't address the resolution of either but my hopes aren't high.moreless
