It's hard to beat Ken Burns when it comes to bringing history alive and in detail. The prohibition two part series filled in a great many blanks in my understanding of the 18th amendment and the history that led up to it going all the way back to the early 19th century. For most of my life, my understanding of prohibition was more or less shaped by old gangster movies and the occational Warner Brothers cartoon poking fun at the hatchet weilding antics of Carrie Nation and other Temperance Movement figures prominent in the 19th century and early twentieth century. Ken Burns did a marvelous job at clearing away the fog surrounding a major event in American History that I've never really fully understood. A DVD collection of the works of Ken Burns is an absolute must forany History buff.
