Vibration
We see the opening flashback through young Ryo Takatsuki's eyes. A strange voice asks him if he wants power. Ryo has been crushed in a building collapse. As the doctors work on him he hears the list of his injuries, especially the fact they can't save his right arm. Growing weaker, he wonders if he is dying. Desperate, he screams he is not ready to go yet. The voice accepts. Cut to the present day, the modern–day Aisora City, part of greater Tokyo. We see a typical Japanese high school, a couple of multi-storied buildings surrounded by athletic fields. And rappelling down the side of one of those buildings is 17-year-old Ryo, who is looking at some swifts nesting on the side of the building. Down below, Ryo's irritated girlfriend, Katsumi Akagi, demands he come down immediately! Ryo complies with good humor, and they and other students start cleaning up the grounds. Suddenly Ryo badly cuts his hand on some glass. His shocked classmates see the cut heal almost instantly. Ryo explains that when he was little he was in an accident and almost lost his arm, but somehow it was saved. Now, injuries to his right hand heal almost immediately. We also learn Ryo's father is always away on business trips, so Ryo's mother has raised him practically alone. That is why Katsumi worries about Ryo so much. In class the teacher introduces a new transfer student, Hayato Shingu. He is 17, blond, ruggedly handsome, but glares at everybody as if they are a deadly enemy. His left arm is in a cast and sling. The teacher invites Hayato to sit next to Ryo. Hayato stands above Ryo glaring, and Ryo feels a painful electric vibration go up his right arm. When he recovers Ryo offers Hayato a friendly handshake, but Hayato slaps his hand away. At the class break, Ryo and Katsumi are discussing the antisocial new guy. Suddenly a kid runs up and tells Ryo that one of the school gangs has taken Hayato up onto the school roof. Ryo is frustrated he has to rescue such a jerk. On the roof, about a half dozen heavily armed toughs gather around Hayato, and their leader gets ready to clobber Hayato. To be sporting, the leader says he won't touch Hayato's broken left arm. Hayato, smiling viciously, says he won't fight with his left arm. Ryo and the kid open the roof door . . . and find the whole gang lying bloody and unconscious all over the roof, and Hayato smiling with self-satisfaction. The kid runs downstairs to get help. Now that they are alone, Hayato tells Ryo that he came to the school specifically to kill him. Hayato suddenly attacks with vicious martial arts skills . . . but somehow Ryo manages to counter his attacks. Hayato snarls that Ryo has had special training, but Ryo protests he just fights the way his dad taught him. Ryo wants to know why Hayato wants to kill him, but Hayato keeps attacking. Ryo counters with a kick that sends Hayato sailing several feet away and crashing onto the floor. Hayato now declares it's time to get serious . . . and Ryo feels that terrible vibration in his right arm again. Hayato declares that his left arm reveals the truth to him. Suddenly, long and vicious metal claws burst out of Hayato's cast. Ryo protests it isn't fair. Hayato snarls that whatever devil gave his arm to him he's glad, because he can use it to wipe out vermin like Ryo. As Hayato is about ready to attack, we hear Katsumi and the adults pounding up to the roof. Hayato, not wanting to involve outsiders, covers his left arm with his jacket and flees down the stairs . . . but not before giving Katsumi a nasty grin. After school, Ryo and Katsumi discuss Hayato. Ryo is positive he's never even met, him, so why does he want to kill him? They part company. That evening in his apartment, Ryo is watching TV. His mom gets a phone call saying Katsumi hasn't come home yet. She asks Ryo to go shopping and look for Katsumi while he's at it. Cut to a dark street, where Ryo is on a scooter loaded with groceries. He has stopped at a vending machine to get a drink. A sinister man with an electric stun stick attacks Ryo from behind. . . and finds himself disabled on the ground, Ryo holding the stick. Several nasty looking agents surround Ryo, telling him that he must go with them, and that he will see his friend soon. Ryo, thinking they kidnapped Katsumi, demands they tell him where she is. When they try to take him prisoner, Ryo strikes and escapes on his scooter. The agents pursue, and Ryo finds himself trapped in a park. He calmly tries to figure out a way to escape, then rescue Katsumi. He sees a maintenance shed with all sorts of stuff nearby, and goes to work. As the agents hunt through the park, they suddenly find themselves knocked off by all sorts of commando-style traps. The men are shocked, how does a kid know such advanced skills? In a thicket, Ryo is remembering all the camping and survival stuff his dad taught him. He is preparing another surprise when the agents' leader ambushes him from behind with a stun stick. Ryo falls to the ground. Ryo demands the thug tell him what they did with Katsumi. The thug has never heard of her, and swings his stun stick again. Suddenly he finds himself doused with soda, and Ryo standing there perfectly fine, holding his stun stick. Ryo is wearing improvised bamboo armor under his jacket, which insulated him from the electric attack. But the soda all over the agent is a great electrical conductor. After that, Ryo escapes form the park on his scooter. Cut to a building near a train crossing, where the leader of the failed attack is being reprimanded by his boss, a large Westerner in combat fatigues. The boss asks why he didn't follow orders, doesn't he know what that kid is? The boss murders his flunky, covered by the lights and screeches of the train. Ryo is wandering the streets, still searching for the missing Katsumi. Suddenly at a crosswalk he sees Hayato, Katsumi's hair ribbon in his hand and a triumphant smile on his face. Hayato takes Ryo to an abandoned hospital, where Katsumi is tied to a support pillar. Hayato cuts her loose, apologizes, and tells her she can go. Furiously, Katsumi slaps Hayato and stalks out of the room, telling Ryo they are going to the police. But Ryo wants to stay and talk to Hayato about why he wants to kill him. Outraged, Katsumi storms out of the room. Suddenly Ryo's right arm vibrates, and Hayato's left arm slowly, grotesquely transforms into a mutant arm with blades at the end of each finger, and a huge swordlike blade springing from his forearm. Hayato declares Ryo is the enemy who slaughtered his family, and even if Ryo has forgotten it, Hayato's left arm has not! He will not rest until all the Egrigori are dead! Elsewhere Katsumi is tromping down the stairs, muttering about Ryo's idiocy, when she encounters the murderous boss from the subway. Upstairs Hayato is attacking with full strength, slicing through pillars and furniture as Ryo tries desperately to avoid the blows. As Ryo's right arm constantly, painfully vibrates, Hayato demands that Ryo show his right arm's power. Suddenly, the boss is standing there, holding Katsumi hostage. The boss finds it amusing that two fellow ARMS are fighting. Hayato and Ryo just stand there, stunned.moreless
