    The Good:

-"Because of you...I accidentally killed a state bird." "How was I supposed to know he couldn't hold his own liquor?"

-"My God. We went almost three hours without having an argument."

-Lassiter and Juliet celebrate Christmas together. He comes off a little too strong for her nephews.

-Shawn and his Dad try to guess each other's presents. Shawn succeeds, but while his Dad fails, Henry still likes the gift Shawn gets him.

-Gus' parents think Shawn is a bad influence. He is able to prove them wrong, but based on everything revealed about their friendship thus far, it makes sense that the Gusters are not Shawn's biggest fans.moreless
  • This episode was great!!!!

    9.9
This episode of Psych was just great, very near perfect. It was extremely funny. The episode began with Shawn and Gus' giving out the perfect presents to everyone. I loved how they gave Buzz a gun and said he'd "shoot his eye out". I also loved Lassiter's fear of snowglobes. He was scared to even touch the snowglobes!

I was expecting Gus' parents to disapprove of Shawn but I hadn't expected their opinion of Gus. They basically treated him like a child. It was hilarious at the end when they paid Shawn to keep an eye on Gus. I liked when Gus stood up to his parents. A funny part with Gus' mom was when she licked her finger and tried to clean his face---with handcuffs on! LOL

It was sweet of Juliet to invite Lassiter to her family's house. It's too bad he nearly took away her nephews' Christmas spirit. Lassy is terrible with children. LOL

I liked how Shawn and Henry tried to figure out what they'd gotten each other for Christmas. It was sweet when they hugged in the end. I liked the case and I liked seeing how concerned Gus was for his family. It was interesting to see that the "Super-Smeller" is inherited from both his parents. It was funny at the end of the episode when Gus' parents told Shawn that they had killed Mr. Fuller. I laughed uproariously when they threatened to kill again. The look on Shawn's face was priceless.

I was disappointed, a little, that there was no awkwardness between Shawn and Juliet. Things were left up in the air between them after the Bounty Hunters episode. Still, I understand that this episode was about Christmas and "Meet the Gusters". I didn't realize how much I've missed this show until the second it actually began. I have the season one DVD set but it's not the same as having a new episode to watch. Psych is a great show, one of the best on TV, in my opinion. This episode was great!moreless
  • "Who keeps telling everyone I want snow globes for Christmas?!" and it gets better than that.

    10
Psych is always such a funny show, but this episode seemed to be even funnier. Lassiter has some kind of fear of snow globes which everyone keeps getting him as a Christmas. Juliet's family comes in to town and she invites Lassie over, but things don't go too well, and of course, someone had to show up dead. When one of the Guster's neighbors shows up dead they are the prime suspects, and Shawn and Gus struggle to prove that they are innocent. This episode is funny, and seems to expand on Juliet's and Carlton's relationship. So, if you are a fan of Psych, or anything funny that is all about Christmas, then check out this episode. You won't be sorry you did!moreless
  • Fake psychic, genuine hilarity.

    9.5
What can I say, it was an episode of Psych. Its hard to be shocked or stunned by greatness when its presented regularly, as usual Shawn (James Roday) and Gus' (Dulé Hill) banter was great and this was one of the few episodes we say Shawn and his father (Corbin Bernsen) engaged in sincere father and son comraderie while maintaining the competitive nature that's makes them so dynamic. The episode also shed some light on why Gus is such a precise and over achieving person. His mother (Phylicia Rashad) and father (Ernie Hudson) are both very patronizing toward him and a case involving the death of their neighbor in which his father happens to become the prime suspect gives Gus and Shawn the perfect opportunity to sway their opinions toward both of them. As the two race to find the actual culprit, the entire force takes the gift giving season to their advantage by playing on Lassiter's (Timothy Omundson) fear of Snow globes. With a pineapple sighting, iconic television guest stars and hilariously fraudulent psychic abilities on display, this, a holiday special, was one of the best episodes of the series.moreless
  • A fun physic Christmas episode!

    10
This is defiantly one of the best Psych episodes I have ever seen. There is so much humor in it, that I kept on laughing trough the entire episode.

We get some more inside in Gus and why he is the way he is. Shawn finds out that Gus parents don't exactly like him, because they think that he is a bad influence. Shawn wants to prove them wrong and show that he is a positive influence on Gus, this is only not as easy. But when someone is murdered and Gus's parents are prime suspects, he gets to prove that is not only trouble. He helps to free Gus parents by catching the real killer. After this, the parents of Gus are don't think that he is so horrible anymore. We also get to see some cute son/father bonding, which I really like. This episode was hilarious and had it all, I also really liked some of the Christmas spirit that was in this episode!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Gus' height is 5'10.5".

    • You never hear Gus or his parents mention his sister, Joy. Mr. and Mrs. Guster mention that in the event that something would happen to them, that Nana would take care of Gus. What about his sister? Wouldn't they be worried about her too?

    • Trivia: Juliet has three nephews: Drake, Finn, and Isaac.

    • Pineapple Spotting: Henry's refrigerator has a pineapple in it.

    • Trivia: Shawn gives his dad a snow globe for Christmas. Actor Corbin Bernsen (Henry Spencer) owns over 7,000 snow globes, one of the largest collections of snow globes in the world.

    • Nitpick: The Scottish tradition of "first footing" is a New Year's tradition, not a Christmas one. Plus the first-footer brings a gift of coal, not food.

    • Nitpick: When in Mr. Fuller's attic Shawn and Gus are wearing different clothes from those in the following scene, although they just left Fuller's house and walked across the street between shots.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Shawn: Whoa! I'm sensing something!
Gus: What is it Shawn? Is it like the other 26 1/2 crimes we've solved for the police department?

    • Henry: Well Shawn, looks like another draw this year.
      Shawn: Yes, it appears so.
(Exchange their gifts, Shawn opens his first)
Shawn: Oh look at this, little Psych golf balls.
Henry: I also signed you up for lessons at the golf park down at Santa Barbara Municipal Course.
Shawn: Sweet dad, thank you. All right your turn.
Henry: Oh, all right. No idea what this is.
      (Opens and finds a note)
Henry: What is this. (Reading note) Dear Dad, you got me monogrammed Psych golf balls and golf lessons with the pro down at the Municipal Course.
Shawn: Turn it over, turn it over.
Henry: (Continues reading) I believe his name is Pierre.
Shawn: Booyah, I got you old man.
Henry: That's it Shawn, you know, this is the last year we're gonna play this stupid little game.

    • Shawn: (On the phone with his dad, who is trying to guess what Shawn got him.) Dad... no it is not an engraved set of rubber bullets. Why would I possibly give you another excuse to shoot a gun... Well you better keep thinking.

    • (After arguing about whether Mr. Guster is guilty)
Shawn: My God, we went almost three hours without having an argument.
Henry: Hm. It's our best holiday in years huh?

    • (Gus and Shawn gave McNab a Daisy Red Rider BB gun for Christmas)
Gus: He's gonna shoot his eye out.
      Shawn: Yes he is.
Gus: That was amazing. How did you know that?
Shawn: Uh, the room where I take naps shares a vent with the room where they do the psychological evals.
      (Walk over to Lassiter)
      Shawn: Lassie.
      (Hands Lassiter a snow globe)
Lassiter: I, I hate snow globes.
Shawn: Ah, that's strange. My psychic senses told me specifically that snow globes didn't give you nightmares about being trapped in a clear ball with snow that burns your skin off.

    • Shawn: I can think of someone who could use a little cheer this time of year. Recently divorced.
      Gus: Separated.
      Shawn: Estranged?
      Gus: Umm...
      Shawn: Embattled.
      Gus: Yes.
Shawn: And all alone for the holidays.
(They look over at Lassiter, who has found his desk filled with snow globes)
Lassiter: All right. Who keeps telling people I want snow globes for Christmas?

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    • (Shawn learns Gus' parents thought he was a bad influence.)
Shawn: I feel like Pepe Le Pew when he looked up "pew" in the dictionary. "Le Pew? Moi? No!"
Pepe Le Pew is one of the Looney Tunes; his name comes from the fact that he is a skunk.

    • (Shawn lists for Gus all the possible reasons he's rarely invited over to his house.)
Shawn: Hiding a Jewish family in your attic?
A reference to the Franks, a Jewish family made famous by The Diary of Anne Frank, who successfully hid from the Nazis for two years in the attic of Otto Frank's office building before someone informed the Nazis of their location.

    • Shawn makes a noise that imitates his heart beating as Gus goes down to see what is under the floor boards, referencing "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe. The story is about a man who murders someone then puts his body parts under floor boards but stills hears the dead man's beating heart.

    • Gus: Norman! Norman! Norman!

Referencing Psycho (1960), a suspense/horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

    • Gus: He's gonna shoot his eye out.

Gus says this line after Buzz walks away with the Daisy Air Rifle Shawn and Gus just gave him. This is a reference to the 1983 Bob Clark film, A Christmas Story where the boy hero dreams of an air rifle for Christmas but is always told that if he gets one, he will shoot his eye out.
