There is actually no way that the hand gun used in this episode could have killed Shabby. The shooter appears to be firing at roughly 30 degrees and Shabby has to be further then a couple feet since they couldn't make out it was a sea lion with their high powered flash lights. If you are being shot at from about a 30 degree angle, you only need to be as far down as 3 feet to survive.
Goof: Although Shawn and Gus break into the aquarium at night, sunlight can be seen streaming into the dolphin tank while they search Labayda's office, meaning the scene was filmed during the day so that the interior of the tank could be seen and adjustments weren't made in post.
On the way to the funeral Shawn asks if Jacques Cousteau died. Gus informs him that Cousteau died in 1995. In actuality both are wrong as Jacques Cousteau died on June 25, 1997.
