Public Opinion

Show Summary

Public Opinion is a 2008 celebrity gameshow-style program produced by BBC Scotland and hosted by Gyles Brandreth. Each episode involves six celebrities who are given four words commonly used by members of the public to describe one of the six. The words describe what people think of the celebrity. They may have somewhat negative connotations and are often at odds with how the celebrity sees themselves. One word is revealed in each of four rounds and the celebrities must figure out who the words refer to. Host Gyles Brandreth asks questions in talk show format and news events, gossip, and personal revelations are shared in an attempt to gather clues about who the word applies to. Celebrities provide their opinions at the conclusion of each round, and at the end of all four rounds they guess which one of them it is. Brandreth then opens the envelope and reveals the poll results. Guest celebrities on the show have included Jim Bowen, Paul Daniels, Rhona Cameron, Uri Geller, David Soul, and Nick Bateman.
