This is the part of the story that takes the deep, dark turn that was extremely radical for a family series. Punky and her friends are attacked by a giant spider with blood-red eyes and razor fangs; once the malignant insect is destroyed the evil spirit (invisible but it's presence is still highly apparent) begins to place a spell over each of Punky's friends (first Margeaux, followed by Allen, then Cherie and even Brandon)... leaving Punky to face the spirit alone; bravely she stands up to the malignant force and demands he release her dog and her friends and it maliciously plays a deceitful trick in revealing them to her as deformed beings. However, the Indian informed Punky that she can defeat the spirit with her love. So Punky unleashes all her pity on it and the spirit disappears... this time forever. Brandon, Cherie, Margeaux and Allan are restored tp Punky and they find thier way out of the cave and back to Henry and Betty. As I stated in the first half of my review, this was a very unusual storyline for a children's show as innocent as this and it may prove to be a bit frightening to young audiences (it's my fervent wish that no child has horrid nightmares after seeing this episode; the show has become such a staple of family television that I'd hate to see it lose even one fan).moreless
