    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • The first human invention to break the sound barrier was the whip - the earliest model of which is 7000 years old. The sound of a whip cracking is actually a miniature sonic boom.

      • $28 million was paid for the rights to the song 'Happy Birthday To You'. This was the first song to be sung in outer space and the original lyrics were 'Good Morning To All'.

      • Cat gut has never been used to fashion violin strings. This was a rumour started in medieval times - they were actually made from sheep gut.

    • QUOTES (6)

      • (on the inventor of the Hokey Cokey)
Stephen: He died in 1996; what happened at his funeral?
Alan: Oh, it was terrible, they couldn't get him into his coffin.
        Stephen: Why was that?
Alan: Well, they put the left leg in... Then the trouble started.

      • Stephen: Domestic spiders were subjected to Bach, techno - which I believe is some kind of modern music - and rap. For techno and rap they built their webs as far away from the speakers as possible, and classical music, close to. Can you tell me about a music called 'tesco'? It's a blend of disco and techno. And they have tesco evenings in certain night clubs. It's a type of modern young persons' dance music, like two-step UK garage, for example, which is my particular favourite.

      • Linda: Bloody Mozart. Special needs boy.

      • Linda: From the Sheffield Star, my favourite ever headline - "Man Dies Of Natural Causes".

      • Sean: The huntsman spider (which, as everyone knows, doesn't spin a web) is the only spider with lungs.
Alan: So you can get it a birthday cake with a candle on.

      • Stephen Fry: Welcome to QI, the show that puts a song in your heart, a tune on your lips, and a hum in your pyjamas.
