It does you no favours ever but outsiders (non QI watching people) really hate it when they say something and you correct them. They will not accept it and will always believe the untrue answer.

EG; Working in the office "Well 1,000 years ago people believed the world was flat" and I jump in and say wrong wrong wrong there's no record of anyone ever in history ever saying ''the world is flat" but still they refuse to accept it ''they thought the world was flat they did stop talking rubbish". The biggest one is people I work with REFUSE point blank to accept that the 2 finger salute (sticking your 2 fingers up at someone) has nothing to do with the old bow & arrow enemy cutting your fingers off thing. They INSIST that's where it comes from and get really nasty when I try to inform them its rubbish and not true.

People like to live in ignorance. They just seem to hate knowledgeable people.

That's human nature for you.

I make a point to correct people, and usually what I tell them sticks. I find it works best on the younger generation. I find it helpful when trying to tell people that common beliefs are wrong, that the 'i before e' rule drilled into them at school has more holes in it than a sieve.
