  • Trivia

  • Quotes

    • Al: I'd love to stay and watch the exciting conclusion, but if you'll excuse me, I have to go give Tina her birthday present...(he smiles devilishly)...and it's a big one.

    • Sam: (opening Vanessa's luggage case) Please tell me you have some food and water in here.
Vanessa: It's a hope chest, not a picnic basket!
Al: (looking distastefully) More like a "no hope" chest.

    • Sam: Hi, little fishie. (To Vanessa) A little sole off the port bow there.
      Vanessa: Stop it.
Sam: Oh, look. He's got all his little anchovy buddies with him. Right from the Caesar salad, you know.
Vanessa: All right, here. See if you can catch some of those little potatoes while you're at it.

    • Vanessa: Now what are you looking for?
Sam: The veil that goes with that dress.
      Vanessa: Oh, no you don't.
(Sam and Vanessa struggle over the veil)
Sam: We need a veil to catch the fish in.
Vanessa: Look. I'm telling you. You threw away my favorite shoes, used my wedding dress as a sail, you are not going fishing with my [dead] grandmama's veil.
Sam: I won't tell her if you don't.

    • (As Sam is about to throw a sealed gold vase into the ocean...)
      Vanessa: Nooo! No!
Sam: What? It's Grandmama's favorite vase?
Vanessa: No. Grandmama. We wanted her at the wedding.
      Sam: Then she can stay.

    • Sam: Oh, my God. What the heck is this?
Vanessa: No. No way. Not that. Don't you dare.
      Sam: What is this?
      Vanessa: Grandmama's sterling silver.
Sam: Sunken treasure! (Throws it into the ocean)

  • Notes

    • This is the first and only time Sam leaps into someone to put right something that already went "right".

    • Sam leaps into the Aegean Sea, one of the few times he leaps out of the country.

    • This episode is also known as "Washed Away" and "When Venus Smiles".

    • A revised opening prologue sequence, featuring new exterior shots of Project Quantum Leap (but with the same music and season three narration by Deborah Pratt) makes its debut. This prologue remains intact on all Sci-Fi Channel airings of season five episodes.

    • Something that is clearly visible is the backdrop of the dingy scene-where you can clearly see that it is actually a backdrop and not real because of the big line that runs through it-probably where it was stitched together

    • This episode is almost a parody of Brooke Shield's movie The Blue Lagoon.

  • Allusions

    • Episode Title: The Leaping Of The Shrew
The title of the episode, "The Leaping Of The Shrew" is a reference to the William Shakespeare play The Taming Of The Shrew.
