Episode Summary

EDIT
August 10, 1968: As a Marine captain whose legs were amputated due to a war injury in Vietnam, Sam finds himself in a veteran's hospital, where he must prevent the suicide of a fellow patient who would rather be dead than face life paralyzed from the neck down. Making matters worse, his wife seems incapable of accepting the fact that she and Sam's host can still lead a normal life, in spite of his condition.moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • When Sam stands up to knock out the sadistic orderly, the mirror image has the pants he wears cut off (or possibly rolled up) at the knee. Sam is wearing the pant legs unrolled, and when he stands up, the mirror image should show them "dangling" from below his knees, as the man he leaps into has no legs from the knee down.

    • QUOTES (2)

    • NOTES (2)

      • While reading his palm, Kiki tells Sam he has "the longest life line I've ever seen. It's almost enough for two people."

This implies that Sam places some imprint upon the person he leaps into, binding with them somehow not revealed before.

      • This is one of the few episodes in which Al comes to Sam before the opening teaser is over. Usually he appears afterwards.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Al refers to the orderly as Florence Nightingale.

Florence Nightingale is a slang term for nurses derived from the historical Florence Nightingale, a nurse during the Crimean War who was known for her compassion and kind-hearted and selfless approach to caring for the sick and wounded.

(It is doubtful Al is implying the man has these qualities. Instead, Al is most likely using the nomenclature as an insult, as in 1968, the year Sam leaped into, it was considered socially embarrassing for a man to be a nurse.)

      • Episode Title: Nowhere To Run
The title of this episode refer to a 1965 song by Martha And The Vandellas. The song was during the Vietnam War.
