The episode is the first time we see Sam's daughter Sammy Jo. Painfully unable to reveal his true self to her, he does find an opportunity to tell her he loves her and always will. In a very touching moment, Sam finds out about his mission, which is not only to save Abigail, but also to save his daughter Sammy Jo, which ties up the murders that have haunted Abigail throughout her life.
Abigail is on trial for the murder of Leta Aider, having been the prime suspect in the disappearance of Violet Aider many years ago. Sam's leapee suffers from heart troubles, and as the aged man in the waiting room suffers, Sam feels the effects, taking away time and energy from the case. Finally, Sam puts Abigail on the stand, piecing together some vital parts of the case.
As the questioning becomes more emotional, Sammy Jo calls out from the courtroom balcony, screaming, "I remember; I remember!" Recalling the events of the day of Leta's death, Sammy Jo tells a story in which Leta's pent-up anger and despair boiled over, causing her to tear apart Abigail's kitchen, eventually finding a butcher knife and slitting her own throat.
The end comes and the case is thrown out of court. The world is right. Al informs Sam that Abigail remarries and is happy, and Sammy Jo turns out well also. Confused, Sam asks how he knows those details. Al informs Sam that Sammy Jo works with them at project Quantum Leap. Unfortunately, she doesn't know he is her father. Sadly, Al reminds Sam that once he leaps, he won't remember either. The episode ends with Sammy Jo running towards Sam and Sam telling Al, "I will always remember Al. I will always remember."
