Episode Summary

The Good, the Bad and the Ficus
While on a routine mission, the ship is accidentally pulled into a black hole, which splits the crew into "good" and "evil" counterparts, with the exception of Ficus, who remains the same because "there are no good or evil plants, there are just plants". After Quark confronts his evil self on a nearby asteroid, he defeats him and sends the evil crew back through the black hole. As the evil crew is being sent back we hear evil Adam Quark say "Keep your deflectors up do-gooder! You haven't seen the last of this face!"moreless

      • Palindrome: Oh, I'm sorry to bother you, sir, were you thinking?
The Head: What else can I do? I'm not that good at athletics.

      • Andy: I love you all, but if there's any trouble at Perma One, I've never seen any of you before in my life.
Gene/Jean: (as Gene) Pipe down! We've got to stick to the commander.
Quark: Thank you Gene, I appreciate that.
Gene/Jean: (as Gene) Yeah, at least until we get you back to Perma One for your court martial.

      • Quark: Ficus, this is just a thought, but could it be possible that passing through that black hole in any way caused this to happen?
Ficus: I cannot be sure for certain, but in my personal opinion I am certain that I am not sure.

      • Quark: Ficus, what does that mean? Can't you just say yes or no?
        Ficus: Yes.
        Quark: (yelling) Yes what?
Ficus: Yes, I can say yes or no.

      • Palindrome: Do you know what's at stake here?
        Quark: Yes! My life!
Palindrome: Something much more important. My job.

      • Palindrome: Quark, I can't go in there and tell them about your evil side, they'll think I'm crazy. That's a terrible career move.

      • Gene/Jean: (as Gene) What's going on, you like your evil side?
Ficus: Correction, Gene. There are no good or evil plants. There are only plants.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • This episode is reminiscent of several episodes of Star Trek. The Enemy Within and Mirror, Mirror both feature either the Captain or the whole crew meeting evil versions of themselves. Also, the battle between the good and evil Quark on the planet seems to be a take off on the fight between Captain Kirk and the Gorn form Arena.

      • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The title of this episode is a reference to the classic 1968 Western starring Clint Eastwood.
