  • Beautiful, Beautiful Episode

    10
Just a lovely episode in general. Everyone's romantic relationships are handled nicely and the emotions experienced by both Justin and Brian are phenomenal. All I can say is that Gale Harold goes down in my book as one of the best actors on the face of the planet. I would write more but I would spoil it... let's just say, if you're not crying by the end of this episode, you might want to check for a pulse. Absolutely fantastic.moreless
  • "You'll always be young and you'll always be beautiful! You're Brian Kinney for f***'s sake!"

Brian's turning 30. It seems as if life as he knows it is over. He is forced to face reality as his friends throw him a "deathday party", reminding him that going out in the "blaze of glory" might not sound like such a bad idea. After initially turning down Justin's request to accompany him to prom, a last minute talk with Michael changes his mind. Finally finding the soft spot in his heart, which we all know he has, he surprises Justin at the dance. The happiest and most romantic moment of the series thus far, quickly turns into a horrific nightmare as Justin gets bashed in the head by Chris Hobbes. Brian's emotional reaction to it in the fianl scenes, clearly illustrates his love for Justin, whether he's afraid to admit it or not. Another outstanding performance by Gale Harold will have you in tears by the end of the episode.moreless
  • Hits close to home

    10
This episode is one of the most powerful episodes of a show that was groundbreaking in and of itself.

When Brian and Justin dance at the prom, it's not only a stand up and chear moment, but the dance itself was amazing!! And the kiss that ends the dance is hot!

But when the a**hole football player cracks Justin in the head with a baseball bat in the parking garage afterwards, it's the worst ending to the perfect prom scene!

As somebody who's been cracked in the head with a blunt object for being gay it hit very close to home for me, but I think it showed a lot of people the trauma the GBLT community faces everyday.moreless
  • Brian turns thirty, and Justin prepares for his prom.

    10
This episode is definitely one of the best episodes of the series. It was also a very touching episode, and it's a very sad episode to watch. Although, this episode is one of the more romantic episodes for Brian and Justin's relationship. You can really see that Brian definitely loves Justin by watching this episode. I also really enjoyed Ted's storyline in this episode. I felt that the whole cast did a great job in this episode. I do wish that they wouldn't have had Chris Hobbs attack on Justin in the last few minutes of the episode. I really wish that we could have seen more of Brian's reaction to Justin's attack. All in all, this was a great episode, and it will definitely go down in Queer As Folk history as being one of the best episodes of the series.moreless

Well what a truely fantastic episode finally brian showed his loveable side he showed he has true affection towards justin my heart was racing when i was watching them dance at the prom the smile on there faces was adorable.

When the camera panned on to chris hobbs you could see the shear evil in his eyes.. once the prom was over and they went to the parking lot and said there goodbyes you could see the passion in brians eyes when he looked in the wing mirror.. then chris hobbs appears and attacks justin when brian screamed justin i got goosepimples and then he sits by justin saying no no no ! he is truely devastated then in the hospital he showed his emotions he cried and i tell you what SO DID I!

    • Ted: I can't believe you brought your autograph book with you.
Emmett: You never know who you might see in rehab.

    • Justin: Did you see their faces?
Brian: Yeah. We gave them a prom they'll never forget.
Justin: Me neither. It's the best night of my life.
Brian: Even if it was ridiculously romantic.

    • Justin: I thought you said you wouldn't be caught dead in a room full of eighteen-year-olds.
Brian: I thought I'd recapture my lost youth.

    • Brian: Why do you always have to ruin everything?
Michael: Ruin? I'm saving you! Just like Toby Harper saved Captian Astro in issue 231 of Astro Comics when Captain Astro thought that he lost all of his super powers.
Brian: God, you are so pathetic.
Michael: No. You are! Don't you see that you still have your powers? All of your powers. And you always will. Whether you're 18, or you're 30, or you're 50, or you're 100. You will always be young and you will always be beautiful. You're Brian Kinney for fuck's sake!

    • Brian: To go out in a blaze of glory. Like Cobain, James Dean... Hendrix. They're all legends. They'll always be young, and they will always be beautiful.
Michael: And they will always be dead.
Brian: Life's not worth living, if you don't take risks!

    • Brian: You look hot, Daphne.
(kisses her on her temple) I'd fuck you.
      Daphne: You... you too, Brian.
Brian: Mind if I borrow your date?
      Daphne: (mouths) No.

    • Brian: You know, that's just what I need. To be at a dance with a bunch of fucking eighteen-year- olds.
Justin: I thought you liked fucking eighteen-year-olds.(smiles)

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode influenced a real life situation in which a gay teen wanted to bring his boyfriend to his prom, but the school would not allow homosexual activity to happen at the prom. As a result, the students were going to give him and his boyfriend their own prom, and many students were gonna go to his instead of the real thing, but that changed when the courts overruled the school's decision and he was allowed to bring his boyfriend to the prom.
