  • Building Up the Plot

    9.0
Not the most memorable episode but I'm sure it will lead to great ones. The plot thickens as Daphne asks Justin to be her first time and as Brian's dad passes away. Even though it didn't blow my mind, this episode had some super heartfelt, bittersweet moments. Looking forward to the next one.
  • Brian gets a call to inform him that his father has died, and he struggles with resentment. Daphne asks Justin for a huge favor. Emmett tries to help Ted see the light about Blake, but Ted refuses to believe it.moreless

This episode starts out with Brian having a three some, and he gets a call in the middle of it. This call tells him that his father has died. Brian decides to deal with it in the usual Brian way by going out, getting high, drunk and indulging himself in sexual encounters. Mike even interrupts him but it doesn't stop him. Everyone goes to the funeral and this is where we find out how tough it was for Brian growing up and why he spent so much time at Mike's. Brian's sister Claire wants people to share memories about her father. Not many can think of any good ones so Mike stands up and tells one...Then Brian tells a harsh but true one about how his father told his mother to get an abortion when they found out she was pregnant for Brian. Later on Brian tells Mike the bowling story that Mike told at the funeral, only he tells Mike what really happened, which wasn't how Mike remembered it. Brian gets messed up and even tries something with Mike, saying "this is what you've always wanted isn't it?" Mike says he didn't want a drunken one night high thing. Brian later decides to pay the old man a little respect after all, so he goes to the bowling alley to throw a strike, wearing his father's shirt. On his way home with Mike he gets out of the car and rolls the ball down the highway with his own choice words of a farewell. Ted runs into Blake and apologizes, so Blake shows up to his place and they sleep together, and Ted says he can stay. Ted loves him and i'm sure Blake loves him too, but he is still not clean. Emmett has a little chat with Blake at Babylon after seeing him with a dealer, and tells him to back off because if he breaks Ted's heart then Emmett will break his face. He even gives Blake money to go score! I have never seen Emmett so serious and threatening, it was kind of cool! So, Blake does exactly that and Ted goes and finds him on the floor of a crack house all strung out, but apparently he doesn't care and would rather try to take care of Blake and help him himself, which usually rarely works out. So, Daphne tells Justin that she's been seeing a guy from school for about a month. At first i thought Justin was a little jealous, worried that he might be replaced by another guy in her life. She says she wants to do more with this boy, but she wants her first time to not hurt and to be nice with someone she trusts, so she basically asks Justin. I couldn't believe they were actually going to do it and i thought they would stop in the middle of it, but they wind up having sex with the agreement that it was a favor and that things wouldn't get weird between them. Daphne tells someone and starts acting like she and Justin are a couple. After Justin tells Mel and Linze about what happened and how Daphne is acting, they try to shed some light on the situation for him. He confronts Daphne and she says he's the one who's gotten weird ever since he met Brian. This was an interesting episode for sure. We haven't heard from David ever since his sexcapades at the bath house. We also hear mention of the prom in this episode, which makes me sad because i know what is coming up.moreless
  • Not the best... but pretty good

    9.2
It's not one of the more memorable episodes but it had it's good points. Daphne's scared of her inexperience compared to her boyfriend and asks Justin if he can be her first time, to get more experience. Justin agrees to on the condition that things between their friendship don't change or get weird... but of course they do. She's now calling him all the time and even sending him cards. Justin doesn't realize how she can't seperate the difference between love and sex, and gets mad at her smothering behavior. Brian recieves news that his dad died, and with his sister an emotional wreck, he has to take some of the funeral preparations on himself. I will say that the end scene where he says his final goodbye to his dad by rolling the bowling ball down the street, is beautifully directed and acted. It's a simple but very powerful scene. Very good.moreless
  • A filler episode...but good none the less!

    9.3
Another great episode. I have to say that this one was a filler but not a bad filler. It was a good one that holds your attention. The whole bowling story added a wonderful edge to the show and made me happy to watch. As do Brian's dad, I don't like him very much.
  • Brian's father passes.

    8.6
After Brian's father passes on you're not exactly sure how he will react, as usual. Ofcourse he throws in the drugs, the (attempted) sexual exploits, and the frightening of his nieces and nephews. (Grandpa's head in a bowling bag? That was excellent.) Then he deals with it in the only way he knows how, he takes Michael to a bowling alley and lands a killer stirke and mocks some hetero's, then he cries. This was probably one of the most touching scenes, not only between Michael and Brain, but one of Brian's most touching scenes in general. You wait for him to really break down throughout the entire episode and you are still shocked and so sad when it happens. You really feel for this character, even after all the less then nice things he pulls.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Michael and Brian are lying in bed together 28:07 [minutes:seconds] into this episode, Mikey's arm's lying parallel to them above their heads just as Brian's lifting his hand to caress Michael's cheek... and at 28:08, Mikey's arm is snug tight perpendicular beneath him and against Brian's collar bone. The utter quickness Mikey had to possess in order for that to work and NOT punch Brian in the eye!
