In the hospital Justin is giving to his mother to take home.. Brian visits Justin Every night in the hospital but will not let the nurse tell Justin he was there. Lindsay, Melanie, Ted and Emmett go to Lindsay's Sisters wedding and while giving the toast Lindsay ask Melanie to marry her. Justin goes in search of Brian and finds him at Woody's with Michael. Just and Brian go back to his place where Brian talks about what happened to Justin on that night. Justin tells Brian it was not his fault and the two embrace. Justin then returns to home to a angry mother. The next day Daphne, Brian, and Justin are outside throwing a ball to help Justin get use of his hand when Justin's mom shows up and tells Justin she wants to talk to Brian alone. She then tells Brian to return her son back to him and to never see Justin again. Brian hands her the tennis ball and gets in his jeep and pulls away.

  • It's as though Brian had been bashed, too.

    About a month and a half has passed since Justin was attacked by Chris Hobbs. Brian is a bleeding mess. He cuts himself off from everyone, including Michael, and tries to forget what happened by drowning himself in alcohol, drugs and sex. Only he can't forget. And for some odd reason, he won't tell anyone he visits Justin every night and thinks about him constantly. Brian is so affected by Justin's bashing, it's painful to watch. His deterioration is evident. And it's plain to see that the only way he'll begin to get over it is by talking about it...with Justin, of course. Only after Justin finds Brian at Woody's does Brian begin to put himself back together. He needs his Sunshine back in his life.

    But all that seems to come to an end when Justin's mom forbids Brian to see him. I think Brian complied without much of an argument (other than "I care about him.") because Justin's mother said out loud what Brian had been saying to himself for the last six weeks. She said it was his fault that Justin was almost killed. Brian blames himself, and Jennifer saying it out loud to him only confirms it for him, and sets him back. As we'll see in the following episode, Brian is back to being miserable because he can't be with Justin.

    We can tell from this point on that Brian is forever connected to Justin, and that Brian will never be completely happy without Justin by his side, or, more appropriately, in his bed.moreless

    In the beginning of the episode the boys are all out at Babylon except for Brian. I remember thinking it was pretty messed up that everyone was out partying like nothing had happened to Justin. I had known before what happens to Justin but i had always thought that he was in a coma a lot longer than two weeks. I also didn't know that Justin's motor skills were effected. Justin's hand/arm are not as useful as they were before and he has to do therapy such as tossing a ball and picking things up to try to regain the full function. He may not be able to draw again. Justin doesn't know that Brian came to see him every night in the hospital, and neither do Brian's friends. I don't know why he didn't tell anyone. Mike comes home from Portland for a visit. When Emmett catches Mike in bed with another guy, he confronts a naked Mike while Mike was trying to sneak out the guy he slept with. Mike then tells Emmett and Ted that he and David broke up. Mike goes to Brian's to reem him out as usual and tells Brian he is a mess. Brian is guilt ridden and sort of having a break down and is depressed. When Mike goes to peek at Brian as he's getting undressed to get in the shower, we find out that apparently Brian still wears the blood soaked scarf from the night Justin was attacked. We also find out that Justin can't remember anything about that night except asking Brian to go to the prom and Brian turning him down. I felt so bad for Justin, he doesn't even remember the happiest night of his life. Brian on the other hand remembers everything and tells Justin, and also tells him that he felt helpless because he couldn't save Justin in time. Justin tells him it wasn't his fault. Have things changed between these two? Justin has some severe anxiety problems as well. At the end of the episode we see Brian helping Justin with the ball. Jennifer speaks to Brian alone and tells him that she knew he was at the hospital every night and never told Justin, and that also the reason Justin was so determined to do better and get out was so he could find Brian and be with him. Jennifer basically tells Brian it was his fault that Justin was attacked and to not see her son anymore. How harsh. I also wanted to say the scene in this episode where Justin and Brian see each other for the first time moved me; the look on Brian's face was as if he was scared to death or in shock. Chris is getting sentenced for attacking Justin and the jerk judge goes easy on him, giving Chris five hundred hours of community service for what he did to Justin, what a crock. Deb freaks out and says she'll do everything in her power to fight this. Later we discover that someone super glued the toilet and the judge got stuck on there for fourteen hours. Mike then figures out that it was Brian. I thought that was funny but isn't even half of what should have happened to him after that bogus sentence. Meanwhile, Mel and Linze attend Linze's sister's wedding, third wedding and have to bring Emmett and Ted as their dates because they were asked not to flaunt their relationship. Linze gets sick of her sister's crap and doesn't want to hide, so she gets up in front of everyone and outs her relationship...and asks Mel to marry her! Mel thought it was more for recognition but later finds out that Linze was serious. Mel doesn't believe in the heterosexual ritual of marriage partially because it's not even legal for lesbians to get married. What will this mean for these two?moreless

    I absolutely adore this episode for two reasons, one we get to see that Justin in okay. He is far from past his experience with Chris Hobbes and his bashing but he's alive. Two, Brian's little practical joke shall we say on the judge that sentences Chris Hobbes. I mean I was waiting for him to do something, it was obvious he was a mess after the bashing and was running himself into the ground with the drugs and partying, but that was the best. Brian is a true evil genius!moreless

    Season two got off to a great start with this episode. I'm really glad that Michael didn't stay with David because for some reason he's always rubbed me the wrong way. I think that when bad thing happen, like the bashing, it really brings out the best in Brian, which is really refreshing to see. We all know that he has it in him even if he doesn't always show it. So I was very happy when Brian had showed up at the hospital every night to watch over Justin. But I found the last scene really hard to watch, when Jennifer tells Brian to stay away from her son. I wish he would have put up more of a fight, but overall, I really, really like this scene between Jennifer and Brian, and the whole episode.moreless

    This was an 'okay' episode. It started out really good. The dialogue was fabulous, usual. At the end, though, it lost me. I think the ending was the only part I didn't like. Everyone knows Brian wouldn't have given up that easily, but I guess they make up for it in the enxt episode, though.

He was coming after you with a bat. But he was moving too fast and you were too far away. And I ran. But there was no time to stop him. And then he swung... and it was too late. There was nothing I could do. And then you just laid there on the cold cement.

    • Melanie: What'd she think we were going to do, perform cunnilingus on top of the wedding cake?

    • Emmett: Pink champagne...yeah, uh, that's too nelly, even for me.
