Episode Summary

EDIT
Irritation and Separation
AIRED:

Brian's oncologist gives him a clean bill of health but insists that he take it easy. However, in an attempt to repair the devastation of the fund-raiser Jeffrey Pendergrass left in his wake, Brian decides to obtain Remson Pharmaceuticals' sponsorship (in the amount of $100,000) to participate in the Liberty Ride. Against his concerned friends' wishes, Brian starts to train for the Ride but quickly becomes exhausted and has trouble keeping up with the others in his spin class.

Emmett makes an attempt to forget Drew, which is no simple task now that images of him as the Brown Athletics underwear model are plastered all over town. It seems to be just as hard for Drew to forget Emmett, as his game has been off and he has trouble sleeping (among other things), and keeping Emmett off of his mind. He finds Emmett at Debbie's and tells him he misses him. Later at the motel, Emmett asks Drew when he plans on telling Sierra about them; Drew doesn't think anyone has to know. Emmett finds he is in the position where he may be asked to live a lie to keep their relationship in tact.

Things are quickly heating up between Hunter and his new girlfriend, Callie, especially in the fact that their relationship has become sexual. During a moment of heat, Callie asks Hunter whether or not he has a condom. Hunter makes the decision to reveal to Callie that he's HIV positive and finds her sympathetic to his situation. However, Callie's parents are outraged when they discover the news in Callie's journal, and they angrily confront Michael and Ben, believing they should have told them. Michael and Ben stand by Hunter, as they believe he acted responsibly. Callie's parents forbid her to see Hunter ever again.

Melanie, still angry over Lindsay's affair with Sam Auerbach can't find a way to forgive her. She tries to be civilized at home in hope of maintaining a sense of order, but when Lindsay misreads Melanie's attempt at communication as forgiveness, Melanie does her best to set her straight. Melanie lets Lindsay know that she feels like she will never be enough for her. When the tension between them causes Melanie to double over in pain, she's immediately rushed to the hospital

  • Relationship Angst

    9.0
This episode consisted mostly of plot development and conflict within the characters' relationships. Mel and Linds struggle through what Lindsay's done, Brian is spurred on to do the Liberty Ride, Hunter faces issues when he tells a girl he's HIV positive, and Emmett has to decide what to do about Drew. Overall a great episode and it's building up to the season finale!
  • Callie's parents find out the truth about Hunter and forbid him to see her anymore. Brian wants to train for the Liberty ride with Justin and his friends. Deb tries to talk to Mel. Mel winds up on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy.moreless

    10
Ted tells Emmett to forget Drew, but he is plastered everywhere from billboards to buses. Drew shows up in a Hummer looking for Emmett and says he misses him, and convinces him to go to the hotel with him. Emmett is tired of being a secret and Drew agrees that they can go out. I was surprised to see them at Babylon; even Brian's mouth was dropped. However it was just a dream and i was a little disappointed. Emmett informs Ted that he and Drew are seeing each other again. Emmett goes to dinner with Drew and discovers that he actually bought out the place so they can have it all to themselves. Emmett asks if it was so nobody would see them together, and Drew says it's better this way because they won't be annoyed for an autograph or anything. Emmett is starting to feel not good enough. When Drew's soon to be wife calls Emmett and says they need to talk immediately Emmett thinks its because she knows. He finds out that she needs a wedding planner and wants Emmett, which will be hard for him. Later, when Emmett finds out that Drew never wants to tell anyone and wants to keep it a secret forever because he would lose everything, Emmett says he can't live a lie and leaves. Deb asks Mel what's wrong and Mel tries to tell her, but Deb stops her and says that it doesn't matter, and the only thing that counts is that they are having a baby, and it's up to Mel to fix it. I didn't think that was very fair. However, Mel tries to work on things but when Linze wants a hug and a kiss, Mel kind of freaks on her. The stress causes her to go into early labor which was stopped by drugs, but she has to remain in bed for the rest of her pregnancy, and Linze has to take care of her. I wonder if it might be fate that this happened now that Mel needs her help and Linze has to spend all this time with her. Brian and Justin have some really hot sex, and Brian says that rated up in the top five. Brian convinces one of his guys to sponser one person in the Liberty ride for a hundred thousand dollars. That's seventy five thousand more than what Jeffrey made off with. Brian wants to train for the ride but his doctor tells him to relax and recover. Justin and his friends tell him the same thing which makes him want to do it even more and out of spite. He trains and winds up stopping early before the time was up. Later, Justin thinks Brian is going to Babylon, when in fact Brian went to train some more. Callie wants to sleep with Hunter, and he tells her he has HIV. She doesn't really freak out and still wants sex, and says they'll be ok if they use protection. Later her parents went through her diary and found out about Hunter having HIV. They go to Ben and Mike and confront them and Hunter, and say they don't want him to see their daughter anymore. He freaks out and when they ask how he got it, he tells them the truth. He sees Callie in school the next day who asks why he didn't tell her, and if he was gay Hunter said he thought he had thought he was. Callie kind of blows him off after that and he is upset. He thinks no one is ever going to love him because of his past and his disease. Mike and Ben do their best to try to console him. Another great installmentmoreless
  • Brian can't keep up with the others.

    9.5
Brian gets sponsored for $100,000 by Remson Pharmaceuticals. But with only a few weeks to train for the ride, the others fear that he won't be ready. During spin class, he can't keep up with the others, and leaves early. But everyone's doubts just pushes him further to want to be in shape for the ride. Hunter and his girlfriend are taking their relationship to a new level. Hunter decides to reveal his big secret to her that he's positive. Callie keeps a journal in which she writes down all of her situations, including Hunter and her's sexual encounter. Her parents read the journal and become outraged and forbids Cassie from seeing Hunter again. I know you can do the ride Brian! I believe in you.moreless
  • Brian trains for the Liberty Ride

    8.2
Brian Kinney, after getting a clean bill of health from his oncologist, begins training for the Liberty Ride. His attempts however are thwarted by his own exhaustion and everyone seeming to tell him that he can not do it, inclusing Justin. However, this only spurs Brian on. Could we expect anything less?
  • To quote Brian in this one : 'That has got to be in the top 5'

    9.8
A fantastic episode in my opinion. Emmett poor, poor Emmett, he can do so much better than Drew Boyd, despite what he said about wanting to gauge out his eyes from all of Drew's pictures everywhere. But Ted was so sweet in being there for him about the whole thing, especially considering their past together. And Brian for doing the Liberty Ride. I'm so proud of him, even if he isn't doing it for the Charity reasons. But at least we get to see him and Justin looking sexy on the bikes, even if Brian had to get off of it a little earlier than the others, at least he makes up for it at then end. :)moreless
