While returning back to the U.S. on the Liberty Ride, the U.S. Border gives Ben and Mike some grief about the U.S. not recognizing their marriage. This makes Deb angry so she runs her mouth as usual, and gets a warning from to officer. Brian tries to make their wedding a nice one, so he gets a wedding cake and bottle of expensive champagne, and makes sure they get a reception anyway, even if it is in the middle of nowhere. When they return home, Mike asks Ben if they are really married because it is not recognized in the United States. Stubborn Brian decides to try to impress a guy on the ride by riding with no hands, which leads him to fall off his bike and break his collar bone. When he's told he can't continue, he decides to do it anyway and ride one handed. He keeps hallucinating and seeing himself and Justin. When the ride is over, everyone gets worried because Mike and Brian still haven't come back four hours later. However, they show up in the snow and Brian says he can't finish. But, he sees Justin and winds up crossing the finish line. Ted is celebrating his six months of sobriety birthday and wants to go to a meeting. Taking Emmett's suggestion to veer from the path to visit one, they miss the meeting and end up lost. Emmett then encourages Ted to have a meeting just between them, which they do. They wind up finding their way back to the highway and meeting up with the rest of the ride, so not much was lost except a decent night of sleep. While in Hollywood, Brett propositions Justing to stay for six to eight months to work on the movie. Justin sleeps with one of Brett's friends who "isn't gay and takes Brett up on his offer. However, at the end of the episode Brian asks Justin to move back in with him, and this time because he actually wants him there, and the invite came from Brian with no coercion. I wonder if this will change Justin's mind about returning to Hollywood. Mel and Linze are still deciding to break up, but Mel goes into labor. When they arrive at the hospital, she tells Linze not to leave, to stay and help her through this. I thought she was talking about the relationship, not just the labor. When the baby is born, Linze still announces plans that she is leaving. Mel doesn't really want her to go. I wish these two would stay together, it is really sad. Especially since they just had another baby to add to the family. Mike is a husband and a father, Deb is a grandmother. However, Deb tells Carl that as long as her son and any other gay or lesbian in the U.S. cannot get married, then neither will she. Instead, she asks how Carl feels about living together in sin, which i found funny. I think Carl is going to take her up on that. This was a great season finale, and of course i can't wait to start season five.moreless
  • Hillarious and unexpected.

This season wraps up with many unexpected twists and turns: Brian getting cancer, Michael and Justin's comic book turns into a Hollywood movie, Linds cheats on Mel for a man, Ted gets help, Emmett turns a hot football player gay and Michael and Ben get hitched. Brian orders a cake and books an Amish band, to celebrate Michael and Ben's marriage. There he sets his sights on a fellow bike rider. He sees him again while riding alongside Michael. He attempts to ride no-handed in order to impress theh guy. Instead, he veers off the road and into a ditch, breaking his clavicle. He's warned not to continue the ride, but does anyway, with one hand behind his back - in front of his back. Though it takes him nearly 5 hours after everyone else finishes, he proves to everyone that he could do anything. Emmett promises to support Ted, so he finds a 12 step meeting, "more like a 2 step", on the way. After misreading the map, they end up lost in teh middle of teh woods. Desperate, Ted and Emmett decide to have their own 12 meeting. The next morning they continue on the same path, which leads them to a highway where all the other riders are. Michael and Ben have trouble getting back into the country due to their marriage, they have to fill out two seperate forms. After Michael and Brian cross the finish line, Ben tells him of the news: he's a dad. Mel and Linds put their relationship issues aside for the birth of Jenny Rebecca. They still hide from the others that they are about to split. Brian asks Justin to move in with him. He wants to reevaluate priorities in his life, and make Justin a bigger one. A great ending to a great season. A light and comedic episode which makes it one of my favorites.moreless
  • Leave it to Brian to break his clavicle while trying to impress a guy.

    "Great"
Brian truly is an incredible character. He's so dynamic, and he has so may layers (like an onion!) which more people are beginning to find out about him. You really empathize with him, and his need to prove to others, but mostly to himself, that cancer and a broken clavicle won't keep him down. I especially love the scene when he's riding alone and he imagines Justin running alongside him, cheering him on. And then when he decided to give up on himself, but looks up and sees Justin standing at the finish line. And guess what? He decides to get back on his bike and finish the ride. It's a true indication of how much Justin inspires him. Somehow Justin turned into Brian's support system, and Justin is the one who drives him. Brian further validates his love and attachment to Justin by asking him to move in with him, and not making a joke out of it. It was so adorable to hear him say that he wants Justin with him all the time. Although I must confess I thought Justin was already living with Brian. I mean, he's always there with him and he spends every night with him. When Brian told him to go back home in the previous episode, he meant his loft and not Daphne's. But I guess it was the fact that Brian actually asked Justin to move in with him that made the moment so special. I love how much Brian loves him without actually saying it! I also adore Debbie in this episode. I completely agree with her decision to not get married until her son is able to legally marry. And she's right to question the supposed sanctity of marriage. With Britney Spears and reality tv shows, marriage has become a joke. This is one of the reasons I love Queer as Folk. It has balls.moreless
  • The Liberty Ride

    8.0
    "Great"
In another stellar season finale Queer As Folk leaves us with a whole mess of joy!

Michael and Ben are married men! They are very cute with one another, as Brian Kinney himself throws them a sort of wedding reception. Jennifer Rebecca, JR, is born and boy is she such a little angel! Michael is very sweet with her as well.

Brian however, being the true cock of the walk that he is, acts sort of rediculous (at first). After making the choice to do the Liberty ride (and actually showing up to do it) he attempts to cruise a guy. Now, I've seen Brian come up with some miraculous pick ups but riding your bike into the ground and breaking your collar bone in the process doesn't really seem like the way to go. Man does it look very painful though. At this point though we start to see that Brian isn't very intense about the Liberty Ride and very intent on finishing it under any circumstances. Not that any of us really thought Brian was doing it for charity or anything but when he explains to Michael that the ride symbolizes his personal challenge we really get another look into how cancer has affected and changed him. If he finishes, he can beat anything; including cancer. Watching him sort visualize Justin powering him on is an indication of what Justin is to him, a link to the world that keeps him grounded and going. Without him he might let go, float away, though he doesn't quite see it in the cheese filled way I made it sound. Watching Brian finish the ride, Justin watching and cheering him in, really is a sight to see. Brian almost give up, steps from the finish lines, but looks up. I like to think Justin did that, kept him going. Helped him finish. And when he invites him to move back in I really feel like Brian validates this and revalidates his care for Sunshine.moreless

    • Brian: I want you to move back in. Justin: Huh? Brian: I said I 'd like it if you and I were to live together. Justin: Are you proposing? Brian: Of course not. With the sudden and unexpected plethora of gay marriages, I'd hate to add to the glut. All this running back and forth between here and Daphne's is time-consuming, and inconvenient. I mean, just last week you forgot your socks and had to borrow a pair of mine. And as for the times when you're not around, I wouldn't particularly mind if you were. Justin: I've been waiting for you to ask me that since the first night you brought me here. Brian: Well, then what do you say? Should I make room in my drawers for your drawers?

    • Brian: I'll be all right. I heard it from the best authority. So, did you f*** Tom Cruise? Justin: Everybody knows he's not gay. Brian: Adrian Brody? Justin: Nice, but alas.. Brian: Tobey Maguire? Justin: Please.

    • Officer Butz: Did you bring any fruit into the country? Debbie: 250 of them - on bicycles.
