Quest for the Sea

Show Summary

Quest for the Sea is the PBS "living history" series where two families spend two months living the way people did in 1937 Newfoundland outport fishing community. We join two families, the Wheelers and the Murrays, as they go back in time to live in a remote area in Newfoundland as the people did in the 1930's. The families are joined by two outsiders who live in the households with them, as they learn the ways of old. The community and lives of the residents used to revolve around fishing, which provided excellent living for decades, but the new ways of corporate fishing have destroyed the old way of life. The families live as the fishermen did, fishing for cod, working in the home, and preparing authentic meals. The days are tough, as it takes all day to cook the meals, and the men are out fishing from dawn until dusk. The children have a difficult time leaving the mall and their friends for the old lifestyle, but most of them learn from it and re-connect with their families. See the ups and downs of life in Hay Cove, Newfoundland, as these families go back to the 1930's on Quest for the Sea.moreless
