"Snake Eyes" offers a great idea with poor execution. The quarantine of the hotel, the search for the source of the outbreak and Quincy's efforts to identify the killer before he claims more victims are ingredients for what could be a great episode. Unfortunately, "Snake Eyes" is padded out to be a two-parter, and the result is a drop-off in tension and a hurried rush to tie up all of the plot threads before the credits roll.
What hurts things, in my opinion, is the mobster subplot. It feels tacked on - the seemingly endless shots of the portly, sweaty mob boss tossing away $5,000 a hand at blackjack keep interrupting the scenes of the outbreak and cut the tension. And ultimately, it's a giant red herring and is almost forgotten about until the end of the show.
Maybe as a regular episode, this would be better. Klugman rocks (as usual) and his final confrontation with the killer is golden. Buddy Hackett does a good job as an obnoxious comedian (there's a stretch!) who comes down with the sickness and, again, the storyline is a good one. But there's just too much dead space throughout to keep "Snake Eyes" from being great.moreless
