Episode Summary

... The Thigh Bone's Connected to the Knee Bone ... (90 min)
A thigh bone is found buried on the building site of a new student union building. Quincy is teaching a class at the university and soon involves himself and his students who the bone belonged to, how they died and possibly even who killed him. Not surprisingly Monaghan and Asten consider this a complete waste of time and want Quincy to get back to his job and stop bothering them.moreless

  • an early epsiode but MISTAKES

One summary of this epsiode claims that QUincy finds remains of a dead man buried in Los ANgeles yet who supposedly died in VIetnam! Unfortently this conventional episode has its share of mistakes. first of all is the fact that the crime occured 20 years previously {1957} yet the couch and Charles Trouts Father think Trout died in Vietnam. In fact from 1957 to 1959 total US fatalities in Vietnam were a total of three see Summary of Vetnam casuality listings from Vietnam War memrial which is something that would have been a part of the public record-a record of vietnam fatalities and Charley Trout name is not one of them --something any compent professional researcher would have found out! John Chandler plays the usual creepy stock characther. Yet one big mistake is-how does he know Quincy is flying to TExas when his only clue is the reconstruction of Trouts face???? {I think this was an epsiode where they were trying to see that the bright/compent assitant of Quincy was going to be Frank Haley and and Sam Fuijyama was going to be the token background assistant!} Likewise tthe theme of a investigator finding a dead man who died elsewhere instead of supposeding oversees in a war is quite Nick and Nora Charles movie and also a episode of "The Wild Wild West. ALso in syndication several parts are cut out from orginal broadcast: Quincy angry because the cheapskate county won't buy uptodate forensic textbooks that arn't 40 years old; Quincy using his badge to force policeman help search for rest of missing remains; Quincy confronting a group of student activists that remains are not of Native Americansmoreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • This episode marks the final appearance of Lee Potter, Quincy's first girlfriend in the show.

    • Quincy finds out that the murderer was able to convince the victim's father that his son was killed in Vietnam. The only problem, his son was killed in 1959, several years before the US got involved in Vietnam. [Editor's Note: According to the National Archives, the Vietnam Conflict for the U.S. began in 1956. The dates for the 'War' are given as between 1969 and the last U.S. troop withdrawal in April 1975. As the victim was described as enlisting in the Army (and not being drafted starting with the December 1969 draft lottery), he very well could have served and been killed in Vietnam at the time.]

    • The chalkboard in the classroom where Quince is teaching the pathology class at the university in Los Angeles (it has a list of words painted down the left hand side), can also been seen in the coroner's office in Lubbock, Texas later in the show.
