  • Lily and River's relationship is put to the test.

    8.3
This episode really tests Lily and River's relationship. River must chose between an important dinner and being there for Lily's big concert. The way the episode was done was great. When Lily told River and he said he couldn't go, Lily was genuinely hurt. I felt that River was reverting back to his usual self and being a jerk, but then River surprises Lily by being there when she is done with her set. However, the person who she told first and was there for her all along, Ray, was left feeling like he was second best. I just thought that everything that was in the episode nicely set up for things to come. Also River calling Lily "Sweets" is one of the few reasons I liked him with her. She brought out the best parts of his personality.moreless

    • River: Sounds like fun but it'll have to wait.
Lily: What? You're leaving? But WROT is going to announce the Trews opening band later.
River: I'm sorry sweets, I gotta write a five page essay on why I deserve that internship. I mean, really, how do they expect me to fit it all into five pages? Oh well, I'm sure it will be cake.
      (River kisses Lily)
Lily: Stupid cake. Now, I'm hungry.

    • Lily: I was lost, my heart in danger, until I kissed my perfect stranger.
River: Babe that was great! But whose this perfect stranger guy? Anyone I should be worried about?
Lily: It's you silly! Tell me what I'm thinking…
      River: What?
Lily: Come on, just try and read my mind.
River: I don't know, you look um, hungry?
Lily: No… I don't know I guess I'm just being girly we've got plenty of time for you to learn my deepest, darkest secrets.

    • Lily: I guess...what bothers me...is that River has no idea why tonight is such a big deal.
Ray: Well let me tell you what I know Lily. Your music is everything to you. I mean, tonight you have the chance to go out there and play for hundreds of people, including some bona fide rock stars, and if you don't do it just because River Pierce doesn't understand that then you're not being fair to yourself. Now, I ah, have a concert to see and I heard the opening band is kicking.

    • Ray: You should hear coffee guy's rendition of 'Unchained Melody.'

    • Lily: Are you writing me a love letter?

    • Lily: Hey Ray, how did you know to look for me up here?
Ray: Every time when you were a kid and you'd wig out, you'd go hide out in my tree fort for a while. I figured I'd check there next.
      (Lily smiles at him)
Lily: Ah, I guess you know me too well.
      Ray: Ah, no such thing.

    • River: Looking for me?
Lily: River, what are you doing here, what happened to dinner?
      River: Don't I look sick?

    • Ray: Latte's for everyone, cause I like you all a latte...ok, I promise never to use that joke again.

    • Lily: What am I thinking?
      River: You're hungry.
