Show Summary

Railwatch was a week-long daily series, broadcast between 13th and 17th February 1989, which looked at various aspects of the British Rail. It took the viewers on a fascinating journey behind the scenes British Rail's eastern region to show how the railway works. Featuring Penny Bustin, Rob Curling, Malcolm Mckeag and Paul Coia, the team produced reports and carried out interviews on a live show. The live show was hosted by renowned anchorman, Mike Smith. The episodes provided a detailed look into the working of train service and people associated with the organization. The episodes covered a variety of topics, including the weekly shift patterns and travel details of a train driver, John Swaybe. It also closely followed the weekly workings of HST power car 43108, which was repainted into Intercity Swallow livery for the series. With an actual cameraman holding a camera in the cab, the viewers could enjoy the captured speed well as compared to other tripod mounted cab ride videos.
