Episode Summary

Jimmy tries to find a babysitter when he decides to get a job, only to end up meeting an old fling who complicates his intentions of getting closer to Sabrina.

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Decent follow-up.

As far as second episodes go, this is one of those rare shows that managed to deliver a great episode after a wonderful pilot. We are still getting to know how the family lives, and the plot is slowly developing.

I'm liking the chemistry between Jimmy and Sabrina. That said, throwing in Shelley and Sabrina's boyfriend between them is a good choice. They need to do this to keep up the tension. Katie Miccuci was hilarious as Shelley. Her teeth is just gross, but a great conversation starter, right?

Virginia keeps being great, as does Maw Maw, and even Burt was great. We didn't get any Mike today and it looks like he won't be around. It's okay, I don't miss him.moreless
  • Now that Jimmy has a baby, he has to find a way to combine fatherhood with his job.

While Raising Hope started off with an excellent pilot, things felt a bit underwhelming in the follow-up episode 'Dead Tooth'. While there was still enough humor to stay entertaining for the entire run, it was all a bit on the nose and the 'heart', which I praised the pilot so much for, was pretty much missing for a bigger part of the episode.

While they still got some good, decent laughs out of the babysitter with the dead tooth, it felt a bit drawn out and it was a weird choice to give Jimmy's 'love interest' a boyfriend. I'm interested to see how they will develop all the relationships, but the episode disappointed a bit after the first one. The rest of the family was also 'just there', and while Maw Maw's smoke bubble and 'lucid moment' were quite funny, I couldn't help but find it just ok.moreless

    • Sabrina: So, is this your wife?
      Jimmy: Mom.
      Sabrina: Mom?
Virginia: I had him when I was young. I don't recommend it.

    • Burt: (to Virginia, about quitting smoking) Why don't you just quit? What? When we were young I thought it made you look like dirty Sandy at the end of "Grease," but the older I get the less I enjoy the taste of your mouth.
      Jimmy: Gross.

    • (realizing that the baby isn't smiling)
      Virginia: Maybe she's just a b*tch.
      Jimmy: She's not a b*tch.
Virginia: How do you know? She's the daughter of a serial killer. Some of that evilness has to be hemeditary.

    • Jimmy: Hey, I thought I talked to you about this. You can't smoke around the baby.
Virginia: Jimmy, smoke rises. She's not gonna be tall enough to breath it for a long time.
