Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Throughout the series Shampoo's hair is depicted as being blue or blue with a hint of purple. In the OAVs, however, Shampoo's hair is depicted as being a rich purple color- this is especially notable in the first OAV "Curse of the Contrary Jewel".

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Nabiki: Read Chinese? Of course I can't.
Ranma: Ah Ha! So you were joking then.
Nabiki: Wrong, I don't joke. Look, it's written in Japanese right here.
      All: Huh?
Soun: And I missed that completely?

    • Soun: (crying) With you and your son in this house, theres never a dull moment. I'm so glad your here. I'm so glad your here. WAAAAAAA!

    • Soun: When he's a boy, she just wants him. When he's a girl, she wants him dead.

  • NOTES (3)

    • The Japanese title of this episode is "Gekiretsu shoujo Shampoo toujou! Watashi inochi agemasu."

    • This episode marks the first appearance of Xian Pu (Shampoo). The kanji in her name are "San" for "stagger; loneliness; centimeter" and "pu" (the Ping Ying reading) for "uncut gem; unpolished gem," The joke in Shampoo's name is that all the Chinese characters in the Ranma 1/2 series are named after beauty products, such as Mousse and Cologne.

    • The ice skating arc at the start of the second season was originally intended to air before this episode. However, during the shows initial broadcast on Japanese TV it was struggling to find it's audience, so it was decided to introduce Shampoo earlier in hopes of getting a ratings boost. Akane's flashback is to the 2. That's why Akane's flashback contains a scene from the episode "Close Call! The Dance of Death... On Ice!".
