  • Hate getting blamed for Sh*t that isn't your fault? That's his everyday!

The very first episode may come across as "WTF?!" but trust me, it will warm up to you fairly quickly. Although it seems it's all fun and games, there are some moments that catch you completely off guard with the darkness hidden just below the surface. I wonder myself how much can one person can take, but Ranma Saotome throws that out the window. He doesn't give in, and doesn't plan on doing so! The romance in this anime is lovely but also a "love-hate" game. Both Boy and girl chose to hide their feelings but it's plain as day they love each other! Did I mention there was 3 other chicks wanting his unwilling hand in marriage. An old classic but awesome, "laugh til you die crying" type of anime, worth adding to your list. For those InuYasha, Yu Yu Hakusho fans out there, you'll love this show!

I love this show, some of the stuff that Ranma gets into is hilarious! Not to mention all those fiance's of his?
  • This show is awesome

This show is about a 16 year old boy named Ranma satome. when he went to china with his dad. Ranma and his father both fell into a cursed hot spring. now whenever ranma gets splashed with cold water he turns into a girl and his dad turns into a panda. About one year later he learns that he has to get married with on of his fathers friends Daughters. The three girls choose the youngest daughter Akane to marry ranma. They later meet A stupid kid named Ryoga who fell in the cursed hot springs too and turns in to a black piglet whenever splashed with cold water. well their are lots of other characters too but you will have to find out about them yourself.
  • this show was so good even the dub was decent until ep 68 when they changed va's

    7.5
when they changed the va's they killed the shows dub. i can't watch it its too bad i liked alot. Richard Ian Cox should of never been chosen as ranma's va. he lisped every 5 secoonds. I like him as inuyasha only. Then there was the principle with the jamaican accent. Did 4kids get to choose the replacement va's?
before ep 68 the show is awesome no complaints except at how stupid akane is 87% of the time DX. It was a really awesome show and caused the birth of shows like tenchi muyo, shuffle, rosario vampire, the melancholy life of haruhi sazumiya, toradora ect.
  • Awesome

    10
This is show is simply : Awesome! First i like the very original curse put on Ranma, but that is barely one of the reasons i watch it. First it has a great plot by making Akane engaged to Ranma and they way they react to it. Second, Shampoo. She is the best caracter after Ranma, she is constantly going after him and she stops at nothing! That is true love. I also like they way most of the people that have a curse use it to their advantage! I also love Ukyo (a better name is Uchan), she is also madly in love with Ranma, but she wants Ranma to notice her on his own, which is really sweet.
I think this show ended way before it needed to be and i would love it if it was revived

    Funny

I love this thing. This was one of the first anime titles I saw, and it's still one of my all time favorites.

Ranma 1/2 is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, anime or otherwise. The scripting is great, a laugh a minute, and the situations posed to Ranma and the gang defy all senses of propriety, sanity, or gravity. The characters are all hilarious (and cute too), and help make the series more than just another teenage sitcom. There is no middle ground in Ranma 1/2, which helps create the simply BIZARRE conflicts between the characters. Beverly Hills, 90210 has nothing on Ranma 1/2 when it comes to complex relationships. Love triangles? Heck, try love three-dimensional parallelipideds strewn with secants, diagonals, and singularities.

The martial arts in Ranma 1/2 is also very good. Not very realistic, of course, but the fight scenes well executed enough that even a non-martial arts fan can get caught up in the action (kinda like what Jackie Chan does for martial arts on the silver screen). Of course, it doesn't hurt either that the animation is generally pretty good, especially for a TV series (the OAV series has even better animation). "Romantic" scenes are done well, too, never taking itself too seriously lest it turn into a soap opera.

Soundtrack is done well. Not too complex, not too fancy, but just what the scene needs to pack that extra punch. Of course, the OAV themes put out by Doco (the quintet consisting of the voice actresses for onna-Ranma, Shampoo, Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane) are in my opinion at least as good as anything else out there.

Dubbing...well, the Japanese version is probably better, but who cares? Ranma 1/2 has some of the best dubbing I've ever heard. All the actors really put effort into their parts, and the voice matches are done amazingly well. In fact, I actually prefer some of the U.S. voices to the Japanese voices (Kuno and Nabiki).

All in all, thumbs up, especially the first season. You want a good time? Ranma 1/2 is the one for you.
  • Creative and Original.

We've all heard of curses before, but you've never heard of a curse like the ones in Ranma 1/2!! Ranma 1/2 is a show about two different teenagers (Ranma and Akane) being forced to become engaged for the sake of their families. The problem, they don't want to be engaged! Then add in the many love triangles that have each character falling in love with other when that person falls in love with the other, it becomes a repeated (but funnier each time) comedy that everyone has to watch. While the nudity could be toned down a bit more, everything else about Ranma 1/2 is genious! Unlike Inu-yasha, this series isn't an action flick, but after the first season, you really don't need to watch the episodes in order anymore, and still get into every plot sequence and twist that comes, which is why i prefer this series to every other anime! Ranma 1/2 was one of my first animes, and no doubt my favorite anime comedy of all time! And when you watch these episodes, you may realize that your life isn't as big of a curse as Ranma's is sometimes!
  • Two teenagers from different walks of life told by their fathers that they have to get married to save the anything goes martial art dojo. And their story how each one hates boys and girls but actually secretly fall in love with each other.

    8.9
Most of what I enjoy about this show was how they protrayed some the Japanese culture and lifestyle. Very humorous story that makes you wish one time that Ranma and Akane would just kiss and get it over with. Each character really balanced out the story and made it exciting to watch. Though in my opinion the only real character developing was done by Ranma and Akane. Which was probably suppose to be. What I don't get that they said they were both 16 in the beginning but 2 years went by and they didn't mention if they turned 2 years older and does it mean they were suppose to be still high school? Well it is no big deal I just was confused by it. And another thing I wish we knew if they really got married or fell in love. But I did like the last tv episode with his mom.

  • Ranma was what really got me into anime/manga. It's nice to have such a thoughtful hero.

    8.0
Rumiko Takahashi is a goddess when it comes to the slapstick comedy, but she needs a good solid lesson in how to come up with new material. After the first half of the series, it started to fall into a predictable pattern, which really turned me off. It almost became a chore to sit down and watch the newer episodes, but I did manage to get through them all.

While the blatant humor has never really appealed that much to me, there were still times when it got to me and simply left me in stitches. Even more, I enjoyed when there was a subtle hint at dry humor, as people usually don't pick up on those, and I was laughing till the cows came home over those. Great series, but only an 8/10.

  • truly genius, and completely humorous. 10/10

    10
I absolutley adore this anime. So will you. Though the animation is nothing compared to InuYasha's gorgeous animation, you forget about it as soon as you watch the show.

Ranma Saotome, a 16-year-old boy, is introduced to the beautiful Tendo sisters...as a GIRL. One of the Tendo girls, Akane, wants to fight Ranma (for fun). They become fast friends...but in a short amount of time. Ranma takes a bath (in the GIRLS bathroom) and Akane comes in--only to see a boy taking a bath in the girl's bathroom. Akane is embarassed, scared, and above all, ANGRY. There's a pervert in the bathroom!

Ranma apologizes to Akane and her sisters for the accident (Akane didn't except his apology) he had. He and his father, Genma Saotome (who's good friends with the Tendo sisters' father), explain what's going on. Ranma and Genma went to the accursed springs to train. Genma can't read Chinese. Too bad, had he known Chinese, he probably would've looked at the warning about the accursed springs (all in Chinese!) and would've canceled the trip to the springs. If only...

Ranma and his father train on bamboo sticks (stuck in the springs) before their guide can warn them not to. Genma accidently falls into one of the springs, and comes out of it as a PANDA! Furious, Genma/panda knocks Ranma into another one of the springs. Ranma emerges out of the spring...as a GIRL! So here's the cursey ^_^: if Ranma is doused with cold water he becomes a girl, hot water reverses the effect until next time. Genma has the same kind of curse only he turns into a panda when he's doused with cold water.

Genma and Akane's dad decide that Ranma should get married to Akane. Ranma and Akane do NOT like this idea, but they don't really have a choice anymore. But since this is a ROMANTIC-comedy anime, there are occasionally a few sweet scenes between the two, but those scenes are vey short.

To tell you the truth, I've always hated romance (yes, I am a girl and girls don't always like romance thank you!) but this is exception. There are no sappy romantic scenes, and the main romance in it is the HUGE amount of people who fall in love with Akane and Ranma (in both his boy and girl forms). Ranma and Akane don't really fall in love with anyone.

There are absoulutey NO 100% plain serious scenes so for those of you who like dark animes, sorry! Often it'll seem like there's going to be a serious scene starting, but then it's interuppted by something.

The characters are very funny and lovable.

They include: Ryoga (my favorite of the Ranma 1/2 guys), a long-time rival of Ranma's and he too, has fallen into an accursed spring and carries the same curse as Ranma, only he changes into something different....a black-colored piglet (who is soooooo kawaii!)! One of the funniest things about Ryoga is his VERY poor sense of direction. The poor guy can't even find his way to the door!

Kuno, an upperclassman who is a pro when it comes to kendo. He also hates Ranma (as a boy) but when Ranma is a girl, he's OBSESSED with her! He's also in love with Akane, and becomes very dramatic when talking about both of them. It's REALLY funny.

Happosai, a tiny old man who's a 100% PERVERT! He steals girls' panties and bras and...disgusting. He chases women and hits on them as well. This may be what Miroku (from InuYasha) will be like 80 years older!

Shampoo, a Chinese woman (who can speak Japanese...a little.) who's MADLY in love with Ranma. The reasons are CONFIDENTAL! (kind of...)

Ukyo, a girl who's a pro at making oknomiyaki (japanese pizza) and is also in love with Ranma.

There are many other characters. Believe me, that isn't even HALF of the major characters I've highlited.

Ranma 1/2 is a bit like InuYasha (made by the same creator) in some ways. For one thing, the main characters Ranma and InuYasha. Ranma wants to be a normal boy, InuYasha wants to be a normal demon. Ranma wants to go to the spring of the drowned man to become a real guy, InuYasha wants the Shikon Jewel to become a full-blooded demon. Ranma is VERY into fighting, so is InuYasha.
    See?

Though this is MUCH more light-hearted than Takahashi's InuYasha, it's just as enjoyable.
Even for people who love dark animes (like me) this is still a great anime! Feel-good, funny, cool. 10/10
  • ranma is a typical teenager expext bu the fact he turns into a girl with cold waterbecuase of a curse to make it worse he is engaged to a crazy girlwho doesn't even like him.

  • The story revolves around a 16-year old boy named Ranma Saotome who was trained from early childhood in martial arts. He is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water, but hot water will change him back into a boy.

    7.0
On a training journey in the Bayankala Mountain Range (Bayan Har Shan) in the Qinghai Province of China, Ranma and his father, Genma, fell into the cursed springs at Jusenkyo (loosely translated, it means "home of the cursed springs"). Each spring is associated with a story about someone or something that drowned in it hundreds or thousands of years ago. When one falls into a cursed spring, they take the physical form of whatever drowned there. Cold water initiates the curse while hot water reverses the effect. During a sparring match, Genma fell into the Spring of the Drowned Giant Panda, and Ranma fell in to the Spring of the Drowned Girl. Upon returning to Japan, Genma informs Ranma that he has been arranged to marry a girl that he has never met. At the same time, Soun Tendo tells his three daughters that one of them is set to marry Ranma (whom they have never even heard of) for the Tendo dojo legacy to be carried on. When they first meet Ranma, he is in female form. This causes some confusion until Akane Tendo sees Ranma in his male form after walking in on him, as a stranger awaiting her in the family bath. When Ranma's curse is explained, Akane's older sisters push the engagement on her since she "hates boys" (due to being relentlessly pursued and attacked by a portion of the male student body) and "Ranma is half girl." The awkward relationship between Ranma and Akane is one of the focuses of the series.

Ranma ¨ö (ªéªóªÞ¨ö, Ranma nibun-no-ichi?, "Ranma one-half") is a comedy manga and anime series created by Rumiko Takahashi. The story revolves around a 16-year old boy named Ranma Saotome who was trained from early childhood in martial arts. As a result of an accident during a training journey, he is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water, but hot water will change him back into a boy
  • This was and probably will be my favorite Anime series.

    10
Although I had seen other Anime series growing up, at the time I didn't really know what "Anime" was. But the first series that ever really got me into Anime is Ranma ½. It's a hilarious series with many things happening in every single episode to draw you more and more into it.

It focuses on several characters, the main one being Ranma Saotome. He and his father were traveling and practicing their martial arts when they ended up in China. They go to a "cursed" training ground, and even though they are warned not to use it, they do anyway. The training ground is filled with small pools thoughout it. Each pool (as they unwillingly find out) has it's own curse of something or someone that has drowned in it (some hundreds of years ago, but most thousands of years ago). They each accidentally fall into a separate pool and when they emerge are different. Ranma (a teenage guy) is now a cute red-headed girl, and his father is now a panda. They soon learn that cold water turns them into this and hot water turns them back. They try to get the curse removed throughout the series. It has a lot of fun moments and introduces MANY great characters and rivals. You'll have to watch the series if you haven't already to find out more though.
  • I LOVE IT! Pi-tjan rules!!

    10
Actually, i haven't seen all episodes, but i have read manga 'Ranma1\2' and i totally love it!!! That's really great story, so funny and stupid a bit, but it's great! I like its characters, especially Akane and Ryoga! Akane is so sweet and nice girl, but on the other hand she's so temperamental and jealous, cool! Rega is so shy and sentimental, and i would like to see him with Akane, he loves her so much! Of course i think that his animal shape is sooo cute! Pi-tjan is awesome!!! Well, i think that Ranma is the most funny, witty and full of humor manga ever! And anime, of course! (Though i don't like Ranma's red hair color!)
  • Ahh, my first anime show i've ever watched. No regrets, it was absolutely PERFECT!

    10
Yes , like i said, this was my first show. At first i saw one of the books and i was like, "hey what's that ?!" And then i have just spent and spent and spent alooot of money! And now i finally have all the books! And of course, meanwhile i was earning money, i watched the anime! And the anime is juust GREAT ! I love it all, the humor, the fights, the love! Everything! Just great , and if you haven't watched Ranma, i say, Do it now, before it's to late! Rumiko, you're a genius !
  • I love it ! The best show ever! Rumiko Takahashi is a genius! GO RANMA AND AKANE! They belong together, face it girls!

    10
What can you do but to love it? Rumiko Takahashi has created a masterpiece! It is hilarious, romantic, funny, exciting, sad, It just leaves you begging for more! Ranma is so great, and i am really sad that it ended! Buuhuu... Well, Ranma is such an jerk, but still he is a sweetypie! Him and Akane is a match in heaven! And Ranma! STOP TEASING HER!
But I guess it is just true love
  • If you mix Martial arts, comedy, romance and louds of love triangles what do you get? One of the best animes ever!

    10
Ranma another one made by the one and only Rumiko Takahashi.
Is about a Martial Artist named Ranma Saotome who was forced by his dad Genma Saotome to train at Jusenkyo the cursed springs and when Inuyasha falls into a spring hes cursed. Now everytime hes splashed by cold water he turns into a girl and when hes splashed in hot water he turns into a guy and as soon as him and his dad reach Japan they meet Soun Tendo a friend of Genma and they force Akane Soun's youngest daughter to wed Ranma and thats where all the craziness starts.

Its a Hilarious show loads of strange times that could make you twitch like a mad man! some romance to those who care about the main pairing and action based on Martial Arts based on Ancient Chinese and Japanese History(Which are made up Moves) All the episodes are pretty good none of them abysmal or even medicore.
All I know is give this a chance and I promise you'll be addicted to it! and dont forget to watch Rumiko's other works of art ~_^
  • Good show.

    8.9
Ranma Saotome is a 16 year old martial artist who is far from ordinary.Having fallen into a cursed spring in China,he turns into a girl whenever cold water splashes on him.His only consolation is that he can turn back into a boy after getting splashed with hot water. His father,Genma, has also fallen into a cursed spring that makes him turn into a panda whenever cold water splashes on him.He is now engaged to the rather temperamental Akane Tendo who is the daughter of his father's friend. His father agreed to the engagement in order to stay with the Tendos.Things get more and more complicated as Tatewaki Kuno, the school's biggest bully, falls for Ranma's girl half.Ryoga,Ranma's rival, also falls for Akane.Add a few more suitors to Ranma(boy and girl),some weird martial arts and a lot of twists and turns to the mix and Ranma1/2 is one of the funniest anime created.I would highly recommend it to any anime fan.
  • Ranma 1/2 is brilliant. (Actually, I change my mind... it goes way downhill seasons 4-7... The first three seasons and the OVAs are most excellent though. (Actually, I change my mind AGAIN!))

    9.7
Ranma Saotome of the Anything-Goes School of Martial Arts has been cursed to turn into a female when splashed with cold water, and needs hot water to return to normal. There are many other characters in this show with the same type of curse, but they transform into different things. For example, his father transforms into a panda, and his rival into a little black pig. Ranma has been forced to be engaged to Akane Tendo by his father, Genma Saotome, and Akane's father, Soun Tendo. As the series progresses, Ranma gets more and more fiances! He starts out with just Akane, who he has a bad relationship with. Later in the first season Kodachi Kuno comes in. She isn't actually his fiance; more of a crazy girl who has fallen in love with Ranma. Then we meet Shampoo, a Chinese Amazon girl who must kill the girl-type Ranma, but then she finds out Ranma is actually a boy, and according to the Amazon laws, she must marry him. In the second season we find out that Genma sold Ranma for food in the past, and then took Ranma back and fled. In the fourth episode of season two we find out about these fiances. Then in the third season we meet Ukyo Kuonji, another of Ranma's fiances thanks to Genma's greed. So here we have Ranma, someone who just wants to practice martial arts, who has several girls in love with him/being his fiance. This is a very funny anime series, mainly based around characters rather than a storyline. One of my favourite episodes was Season 3 Episode 11 "Les Miserables of the Kuno Estate", I definately recommend you see it if you haven't already. Well, I recommend you watch all of seasons 1 to 3 as well as the OVAs; those are the good episodes. There are some good episodes in the other seasons too, but it's just not the same... Season 7 starts out pretty lame, but those episodes are very Akane-Ranma based, and are overall good fun episodes like seasons 1 to 3.

Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, show up at the Tendou dojo after a journey to China. There, the two had fallen into cursed springs. Whatever died in those springs is what Ranma and Genma will turn into. Ranma turns into a girl while his father becomes a panda. However the transition only takes place if they come in contact with cold water. And hot water reverses it. But that is only one of Ranma`s many problems. His father and Mr. Tendou make a deal that has Ranma and Akane, Mr. Tendo`s youngest daughter, both get married so they can take over the family dojo. Until then, they remain engaged and unhappy.
  • the best of the best. it doesnt get any better.

    10
this is the pinicle of anime. the best story and the best comedy. the funny thing is this show is ment for preteen kids in japan and china. no adults oversea watch it. they think it is childish. oh well. their loss. i love being childish. this is the best one ever. shampoo and all the girls are so funny when they fight over ranma. and the way ranma continues to tell akane the he is a better looking girl than she is, is the best. i have seen the ending that is not in the states. the way the manga ends and they all pair up and ranma and akane get maried, shampoo and moose, and nabiki and kuno, and ryoga and ukio, dr tofu and the oldest sister i forgot her name. they all are paired and it is a fre for all weding that ends great.
  • OMG! I beg you for more anime like this

I must say that this is one of the best animes I've ever seen. I don't really know why I like it so much, probably because I like fights, love and all that stuff that makes it so good. Let me tell you I haven't seen the entire serie, but i'm only missing the last episodes, I guess I'll watch them on youtube or something. Well, the anime is about Ranma Saotome a martial artist, and Akane Tendo his fiancee. They have countless adventures, stories and stuff with their families and friends. The main plot is about Ranma getting married (which I still don't know who he marries with, Akane right?) with one of his endless fiancees Genma got him or fights with his also endless enemies. It's a little obcene in some parts but average is very good. Don't hesitate and start watching this great anime!

I was not much into Anime when a friend of mine suggested this show. I purchased the complete first season and absolutely fell in love with the show. Whenever I'm blue or in need of a good laugh this is what I watch. The humor is fantastic, and the changes in the people are fun and quirky. The story is silly and convivial. I adore both the Boy Ranma and the Girl Ranma. The antagonism between Ranma and Akane is precious. The creator did a phenomenal job at bringing us a quirky and delightful story. This will be in my longtime favorites. It would be nice to get something new, maybe the creator will revive Ranma 1/2 for us again. We can always hope!!!
  • The not-so-traditional storyline of boy meets girl... but not only does boy meet one girl, he meets several girls, several boys, and is HALF GIRL HIMSELF. As the opening goes, \"When splashed with cold water, HE becomes a SHE.\"

Love it, love it, love it. When I was younger, it held its rank with the other cartoons I'd watch such as Darkwing Duck or Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers. It has the silliest storyline ever, BUT I was a child and it was no big deal to watch non-sensical animations. BUT NOW, ten years later and this anime still holds its place in my heart, even when I introduce it to friends who think I am completely insane. Who can resist the insanity of a boy-turns-girl and his many different love affairs, battles, and hot-water situations? No pun intended, of course... This has to be my guilty pleasure indeed. This is Takahashi-san at her finest.
  • One of the catchiest and funniest Anime comedies I ever seen.

I pretty much got into manga and anime because of the first season of Ranma 1/2 (my first manga was the first appearance of Ukyo, and then a friend of mine loaned me his copies of the first season back in 1996). It\\\'s funny, clever, emotional, and well-animated. The dubbing was terrific--and after all these years, it\\\'s still the best dub I\\\'ve ever seen, except for the Tenchi series (which, for some reason, I liked better than the Japanese voices)--but I just bought the DVD box set and watched the entire series in Japanese, and it\\\'s even better! I\\\'ve been a big fan of Megumi Hayashibara (Girl-type Ranma, Tenchi\\\'s mother, Lina Inverse, Rei Ayanami, Momiji from Blue Seed, etc.) and I was not disappointed with her voice acting (I can\\\'t wait to hear her do the \\\"Ranma\\\'s Declaration of Womanhood\\\" episode). A bigger surprise for me was that the voice-actress of Nabiki also was Kiki from Majo no Takkyubin. Wonderful voices all around, but the Japanese Ryoga\\\'s voice is so strong and deep that I found it hard to believe he was as stupid as he is (interesting to note that he also plays the Jusenkyo Guide--I wouldn\\\'t have believed it if I hadn\\\'t seen the credits!). Also, the subtitles gave some information that was important that was left out of the dub, and sometimes (such as repeatedly in the \\\"Pelvic Fortune Telling\\\" episode and that scene in Akane\\\'s lost love when they fight after eating hamburgers), I didn\\\'t understand what was really going on until I watched the subtitle. Still, I did find myself missing some of the Americanized jokes, especially in the episode where Akane loses her memories of Ranma and lists off a bunch of things that he must be (\\\"That 1986 remake of King Lear directed by Akira Kurosawa\\\" \\\"That\\\'s Ran!\\\" \\\"That song by the Beach Boys!\\\" \\\"That\\\'s \\\'Help Me Ronda\\\'\\\"). Anyway, this is a wonderful series that doesn\\\'t have too much nudity and isn\\\'t too \\\"kawaii\\\" like Pokemon or Mon Colle Knights.
