Favor lost the whole herd except nine at Devil's Patch Quilt, when thunder stampeded the herd. Favor tells the cattleman's association Brock Dillman he was trying to beat Tom Bickel's herd into Great Bend. The hotel clerk tells Favor payment in advance. Favor tries to cash a $500 personal note at the bank. Rowdy asks Favor what he is going to tell Mr. Teisner, the head of the association. He said the drag was split and Rowdy was in charge. Bickel's crew comes to rub it in. Major fight. Bickel cosigns the note for Favor. Teisner has another herd to move. Bickel tells Teisner he never would have went through Devil's Patch Quilt. Wish and Mushy hear Teisner ask Rowdy to head the herd. Rowdy told Favor not to take the shortcut. Dillman tells Teisner, Favor and Bickel were in cahoots. Favor takes total blame. Teisner gives Favor a bank draft for $1500 to pay off his crew and get a new one together for the new drive.
