Mr. Fletcher offers Rowdy $6,000 to get 1500 head to Bent Fork in six weeks or less. There is a penalty of $30 for each head that doesn't make it. He says he has to ask his men. He offers double pay and a new set of duds if they make the deadline. Plenty of fresh air and sunshine if they don't. They agree. Lash Whitcomb, one of Fletcher's men is going along as Segundo (#2 man). Lash and Rowdy disagree on which trail to take. Rowdy checks his out. It ends in a box canyon. Five hungry looking Arapahos ride up. Lash fire a shot into the air they take off. The Indians are sneaking in. Rowdy's horse hits a chuckhole and he is thrown and breaks some ribs. The Indians make off with five head. Rowdy tells Lash to take over. Ten miles and three days from Bent Fork, Sheriff John Keeley, says there is a sixty-day quarantine on Texas cattle. He wants a $5,000 bond. Rowdy says he doesn't have $500. Lash tells Rowdy to pay the sheriff some bribe money. Rowdy tells Lash you knew all about this sheriff. Rowdy, Ian and Simon go into town. A lawyer Clay Heath recommends Rowdy dicker with the sheriff. Rowdy says he's taking the herd right down main street. He offers the men a cut of his share. Lash packs his trash and leaves. The drovers get the drop on the sheriff's men guarding the cattle. Rowdy tells Keeley if you shoot the herd will stampede. Keeley stations guns on the roof but relents and the herd goes through. The men get their new duds.
