  • A FIXER WHO NEEDS FIXIN'

Ray Donovan Series Premiere Review: It's a Shame About Ray

"The Bag or the Bat" offered a sense of what Ray Donovan wants to be, but ultimately it felt clumsy and lacked focus.

  • Episode Summary

Los Angeles fixer, Ray Donovan, does what needs to be done for a set of high powered attorneys, Ezra Goldman and Lee Drexler. Ray learns his father, Mickey Donovan, has been released from prison five year early and is headed out to Los Angeles, something Ray is not happy about. Before he catches his plane, Mickey kills a priest and vows revenge on Ray for the frame job that sent him to prison. Ray's first order of business is to help Lee's megastar, Tommy Wheeler, avoid a scandal with a transsexual. Later he sorts out who's stalking Stu Feldman's girlfriend, Ashley. In addition to his job, Ray has to deal with the tensions at home where his wife Abby is concerned about the kids' schooling and moving to a better location.

One of the best first episodes of any show I have ever watched. Kept me entertained and engaged the entire hour. Not a dull moment in this episode. If this show can continue to momentum and story lines that it has started and layed out for our viewing pleasure then we shall have one hell of a great show on our hands. From the first minute to the last minute this episode keeps your interests with great plot twists and character development. Lets hope the future episodes can keep this up!moreless
    • Interesting

I thought the pilot was interesting, will be great to see where they go with the character. As a first episode I was definitely interested in the characters and what they may have to offer for the rest of the season.

The next Dexter, this show is not.

The pilot was all over the place. None of the cast really excelled that much either. Liev Schreiber was too random and uninspired, and Jon Voight looked minutes away from wanting to take a nap.

I also don't think the whole "fixer" thing is interesting enough to watch over 12 episodes.
