Episode Summary

EDIT
After Brock and Barbra Jean get audited, Brock informs Reba that the IRS is going to audit the last five years of their marriage. Later, Brock makes Reba nervous when she discovers that he has a few secrets he doesn't want the IRS to find out about. Meanwhile, Cheyenne makes Van take part in her sociology project about a man's perspective on marriage, but she certainly wasn't anticipating all the attention he would receive from the women in her class.moreless

  • The truest episode of any show I've seen so far.

    10
I can't remember the last time when a show talked about something this serious, and it's not about pregnancy or drugs or those overdone conflicts. This is great, and I give the writers props for challenging themselves. It's so fresh and new and I really, really want to see how they deal with it. I hope they don't come up with a really cheap way of getting them out of it. I want to see the characters work hard and come together. Also, they hinted the fact that Brock and Barbara Jean may lose their house, so I woner if they'll move in with Reba. Exciting!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Nitpick: It's revealed that Reba worked for Brock in 1999, but in Proud Reba it's implied that Reba's never worked for Brock.

    • In one of the still shots between scenes, a copy of The Texas Experience cookbook can be seen.

The Texas Experience is 372 pages of Friendship and Food, Texas Style. This is a cookbook from the Richardson Womans Club of Richardson, Texas. Released in 1982 and is in its twelfth printing with over 150,000 copies. A copy of the book is now preserved in the Hall of Fame section of the Walter SW. McIlhenny Library for community cookbooks.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Barbra Jean: You know how I've been doing all of our tax returns?
      Reba: Yeah, what's the problem?
Barbra Jean: I'VE been doing all of our tax returns! Here! Take a look!
Reba: Well, right off the bat, I'd say you should stop doing the "I heart the IRS" stuff. It makes you sound desperate.
Barbra Jean: I am desperate! Oh, Reba, I'm goin down! I'm headed for the big house!
      Reba: Oh, Barbra Jean.
Barbra Jean: Promise me Reba, if i get sent to prison, you will do something to get sent to prison too! And then we'll break out like on that show! You're gonna have to get the layout of the prison tattooed on your body so you're gonna need to gain some weight! Oh, GOD!
      Reba: Calm down!
Barbra Jean: Oh, I love how tough you are. When we're in prison, I'm so gonna be your girlfriend!
Reba: Barbra Jean, they only send you to prison if you lie on these forms... not because you put glitter all over it!
Barbra Jean: I would never knowingly lie! It would be because I just made these mistakes because I don't know what I'm doing, right?
Reba: Yeah, you should plead dumb! Trust me, after they talk to you for awhile they'll let you off. Heck, they'll probably even pay for your ride home!
Barbra Jean: Even if we didn't go to prison, I would SO still be your girlfriend!

    • Van: Cheyenne! I do not wanna go to some stupid husband panel! We have a flat screen high definition T.V.! I finally have something to grow old and get fat in front of!

    • IRS Agent Miller: I'd like to talk to you about 1998.
Reba: I was drunk that whole year!

    • Barbra Jean: You never told me we could lose the house. I can't live under a bridge. Not again.

    • Barbra Jean: Reba. We're back!
Reba: Just like a cold sore.

    • (Reba smacks BJ on the shoulder)
Barbra Jean: I love how tough you are. You are so going to be my girlfriend.

  • NOTES (4)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Barbra Jean: Promise me Reba, if i get sent to prison, you will do something to get sent to prison too! And then we'll break out like on that show! You're gonna have to get the layout of the prison tattooed on your body so you're gonna need to gain some weight!

This is a reference to the hit Fox show Prison Break, starring Wentworth Miller and Dominick Purcell as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows.

    • Brock: Miller Time!

This is a take off the phrase, "Hammer Time" which is spoken by MC Hammer in his hit 1989 song, "U Can't Touch This".

    • Reba: (anxious to watch her new HDTV) Okay, Dr. Phil, polish up that bald head of yours.

Phillip Calvin McGraw Ph.D. (best known as Dr. Phil) is the host of the popular American psychology TV-show Dr. Phil. He gained celebrity status following appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

    • The title comes form the saying, "Don't Mess With Texas".
