Barbra Jean Booker Hart
Dr. Brock Hart
Barbra Jean says that she didn't always want to be a thrifty stay at home mom. However, it has been shown time and again that Barbra Jean isn't thrifty at all, and she has very bad problem with impulse buying.
When Cheyenne is holding the bottle of water at the kitchen table, the 'D' in Dasani is blocked off.
(about Cheyenne wanting to pursue a career in Dentistry)
Brock: So what? You're saying that I'm a bad parent for encouraging our child's dreams. Is that it?
Reba: Yeah. You're a bad parent. A good parent matches the dream to the child. So they won't get hurt or disappointed. Not every child can be an astronaut. (looks at Barbra Jean) Or jam seven plums into their mouth!
Barbra Jean: Eggs! And it would've been eight, but I sneezed!
(To Barbra Jean and Brock)
Reba: What were you thinking, you boneheads? Oh excuse me, Dr. Boneheads.
Cheyenne: I want to become a dentist.
Kyra: First, you have to be able to spell dentist.
Cheyenne: I'll tell you what I can spell. Shut up, Kyra!
Right after Brock and Cheyenne leave to tell Reba about the Dentistry news
Barbra Jean (to Kyra): Don't you want to see how your mom reacts to all of this?
Kyra: Nah, it's only four houses down; I'm pretty sure I'll be able to hear from here.
Barbra Jean (to Cheyenne, helping her decide on a major): What are you interested in?
Kyra: Lets see, nail polish and shopping... she should major in rocket science?
Cheyenne: Or how about I major in... shut up, Kyra!?
Brock: You know Reba, if we were still married this would be the part where we hug and say what a good job we're doing, then go make dinner.
Reba: Hey, wanna do that over your place?
(Reba opens the door and Brock steps out)
Brock: You're gonna slam the door, aren't ya?
Reba: Maybe I was wrong.
Brock: Somebody get a video camera.
International Episode Titles:
Czech Republic: Kariéra snů (Career of Dreams)
The scene in the season 4 theme song where Brock points and says "Dr. sweetie", is from this episode.
Taping Date: August 26th 2003
Barbra Jean says that they could become the 4 out of 5 dentists that always recommend stuff. This is a nod to the commercials for the gum Trident. Many commercials over the years have used the slogan 'Recommended by 4 out of 5 dentists'.
The title of this episode is an allusion to the 1972 novel, The Best and the Brightest. The Best and the Brightest is an account by journalist David Halberstam of the origins of the Vietnam War. The title may have come from a line by Percy Bysshe Shelley in his work To Jane: The Invitation, which was published in 1822.
