Episode Summary

After being named player of the week, Van begs Reba to host the pre-game dinner for the football team since his family won't even talk to him. When she finally gives in, he and Cheyenne are so excited she can't help but look forward to it... that is, until Brock and BJ arrive with the "bible" for team pre-game dinners. They offer to take hosting off of her hands, but Reba refuses to give in. If they have to have a perfect dinner, silly traditions and all, to win then that's what she'll give them. Reba has everything in order for the dinner until Cheyenne comes back from running errands at the store. It seems she was so overwhelmed looking in the baby aisle that when she went to pick up potato salad, she picked up the wrong kind. Reba solves the problem by dumping the potato salad into a serving dish and saying that no one will ever know. The dinner goes well, with Cheyenne even participating in cheers with her old squad. But Barbra Jean discovers Reba's ruse with the salad and tells the whole team. Reba takes the blame so the team isn't mad at Cheyenne. They decide all is lost and they might as well go get their butts kicked on the field. At half time the Wildcats are losing miserably. When Cheyenne finds out that Reba lied for her, she decides to take responsibility and confess to the team. Van stands up for his wife but it doesn't change the fact that Wildcats still think they're going to lose. Just then Reba saves the day again by arriving with the right potato salad. They go out and after a dramatic comeback, win the game. (Reba admits to Cheyenne that she just changed the labels and it's the same old potato salad.) Barbra Jean apologizes to Reba for telling everyone about the mistake.

  • Pretty good actually.

This episode was funny. Reba has to make dinner for the football team after Van is named Player of the Year. When Cheyenne goes shopping for the food, she kinda forgets what she's doing and buys the wrong kind of potato salad, which causes the team to... well... not play very good. Although, I really don't get why the wrong kind of potato salad would make you a lousy football player. To me, I would just go with whatever potato salad tastes good to me. I don't care what kind it is. Then again, athletes have their own beliefs. Reba takes the blame for it, but Cheyenne confesses that she's the one who bought the wrong potato salad and not Reba. It was actually really sweet how the episode ended. Everything worked out in the end like it always does. This episode was really cool!moreless
  • This is an excellent episode!

I really loved this episode. We finally get to see Van's football team. It's great, when Reba decides to do the steak dinner, she put in all her efforts to prove to Brock she can be just as spirited as Barbra Jean. But, when Cheyenne gets the wrong potato salad, Barbra Jean notices the empty containers she tells the whole team. Reba takes the blame, but Cheyenne doesn't want her mother to be blamed for her mistake. In the end Reba gets some of Ed's Famous Potato Salad to give to the team, ...or was that Ed's Famous Potato Salad? Well either way, they still win!moreless
  • OMG! I Made A Connection!

In this eppy, a girl from the movie Bring It On appears. IN the 2001 movie, Not Another Teen Movie, JoAnna Garcia who plays Cheyenne, spoofs the movie. And that was my conncection.

This is one of the only shows I watch. And Reba McEntire, aswell as the whole cast make the show. I couldn't see any other actors or actress' portray these very loveable characters. Reba is a show that when you watch, you feel like family. And when the show's over, you feel so sad, that you take out your DVD set and start watching the eppies all over again.moreless
  • Football episode...

When two people from the drill team come to kidnap Van it's hilarious because Kyra comes with a mallot ready to hit people with it. The football pre-game dinner is a funny thing since they have a bible dedicated to just that dinner. The coach dedicating the game to Reba was hilarious especially when she claims she messes up the potato salad and takes the blame for Cheyenne. This episode is not really that interesting because it is based upon a football game/ ritual.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • At one point in this episode, Van says that Reba is the best cook ever. This is a little inside joke that Reba is teased with and laughs at on the set of Reba as it is a very well-known fact that while Reba is very talented in many arenas, she is not a very good cook.

    • When Cheyenne left the house to tell the team about her mistake she left without a jacket, but when she arrived she was wearing a jacket.

She could have had a jacket in her car.

  • QUOTES (4)

  • NOTES (3)

    • Reba uses the quote 'the Bible tells me so'. In addition to being a lyric from the song American Pie, it is also sung in the religious nursery rhyme Jesus Loves Me. 'Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so'.

    • Reba:... the bible tells me so.

This is a line from Don McLean's 1971 rock single, American Pie, which was a number one U.S hit for four weeks in 1972.

    • The title of this episode comes from the saying, "The Stakes Are High!"

    • Coach Harrell: Let's bring it on!

Bring It On is a movie, starring Kirsten Dunst, about cheerleading competition... guest star Rini Bell played a cheerleader in the movie. JoAnna Garcia (Cheyenne) starred in the movie Not Another Teen Movie which spoofed Bring It On.
