  • This is the first Rebus episode staring Ken Stott as DCI Rebus and he is a fine choice for the part. In The Falls he tries to catch a killer on a mission who leaves scary trails by his/hers victims.moreless

Ken Stott gives us his own take on the very loved DCI Rebus, something that isnt easy as Ian Rankins readers all have their own picture of the roughedged but good hearted inspector. Stott does a good job as does the other actors and a special mention goes to Sharon Small, also known as Barbara Havers to all you Inspector Lynleys lovers out there, as she portraits Rebus on-and-of relationship.
The story starts when a retired doctor gets killed in his home, tied to a chair, bleeding to death. Next to the body is a small, handmade coffin made out of paper with a smiling baby doll inside. Rebus soon gets in contact with a girl who says she knows who the murderer is and that he is obsessed with her. The girl is a friend of Rebus girlfriend (Small) and the hunt is on.
The episode is skillfully plotted, as we can expect from a script based on a Rankin novel and there will be one or two bumps in the not so straight road. Rebus temper and the scotish countrysite makes this a good start for a new season with a tougher and more hard hitting Rebus.moreless

    • Executive producer Eric Coulter believes Ken Stott was the natural choice to play Rebus. "Ken is a fantastic actor. He has the right mix of darkness and humour which was essential for the role, and of course he comes from the right city." In a gentle dig at the casting of John Hannah in the first season, he added: "Our Rebus is close to the character in Ian's books. He is a troubled soul with a drink problem whose love life never seems to work out. He loves winding people up and gets a buzz from being difficult but he is a good inspector and works intuitively to solve crime." Edit
