Season 2 Episode 0

Yes, Mikey, Santa Does Shave (2)

Aired Saturday 10:30 AM Dec 26, 1998 on ABC

  • Trivia

    • T.J.'s costume for the Christmas play has seven candles when there should be nine candles as there are eight nights of Channukah and the shamash, use to light the other candels.

    • A reference is made to when Mikey sang the National Anthem at the "Spring Fling" (in the episode The Voice). But in the spring before this episode takes place, Mikey would have still been in the third grade and Gus wasn't even at the school, so how could this episode take place after "The Voice" without the characters aging?

  • Quotes

    • Old Man: Hey Mikey. You made a great Santa.
Mikey: Thanks to you, Mister. You helped me find that place in my heart that I thought was closed for the holidays.
Old Man: I don't think it was closed, Mikey. I just think you'd gone and taken a lunch break.
(His watch beeps) Well, I better get going. I still have lots to do before the big day. (He winks and begins to walk away)
Mikey: Hey, Mister. How'd you know about my show?
Old Man: You invited me, remember?
      Mikey: I did?
(As the old man walks away, a piece of paper falls out of his pocket. Mikey picks it up)
Mikey: Wait! You dropped something! (He looks at it and recognizes it as his letter to Santa) Hey, wait a minute.
Spinelli Yo, Mikey, who was the geezer you were talking to?
T.J: And isn't that the letter you wrote to Santa?
Vince: I thought you tore that up and threw it into the wind?
      Mikey: I did.
(Mikey and the others run after the old man and look up into the sky)
      Old Man:(Offscreen) Ho, Ho, Ho!
      Gretchen: But that means...
      Mikey: Yeah. Santa shaves!
Santa: Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

  • Notes

    • The Dec. 19-25, 1998 issue of TV Guide gave this episode a "best bet for kids" in anticipation of it's Dec. 19 airing. Unfortunately the episode was postponed until the day after Christmas.
