Red Cap

Show Summary

Welcome to the Red Cap guide at TV.com. Written by Patrick Harbinson (ER, Dark Angel), Red Cap, set on a British base camp in Germany, focuses on the elite plain-clothes detective unit of the Royal Military Police. Known as the Special Investigation Branch, the SIB is charged with one of the most demanding of all military jobs: the investigation of serious crimes committed by, or against, members of the British Army. Sergeant Jo McDonagh (Tamzin Outhwaite) is a tough-talking, dedicated new recruit to the unit, who has just been transferred to the SIB from the Close Protection Unit. Jo is a maverick who has to prove herself and gain acceptance in a man's world that is suspicious and unwelcoming towards outsiders. Red Cap was made with the full cooperation and support of the British Army.

  • That wasn\'t that funny, and it seems to me that artist couldn\'t hold back their extreme jealousy over the success of Family Guy.

That wasn\'t that funny, and it seems to me that artist couldn\'t hold back their extreme jealousy over the success of Family Guy. Man I wish south park would get back to its roots of coming up with original funny content than playing politics every show. I mean so what if family guy rips people off, everyone rips someone off, somewhere along the line, south park even admitted this in one of my favorite episodeS.moreless

I can see how some people say that there are problems with Red Cap but I personally think that it is still very enjoyable. It's nowhere near some of the other shows that I've watched lately but it's just because those were particularly good not that Red Cap was particularly bad. Recommended if you have time to spare.
  • Intresting, would watch again

i dont normally watch army dramas but i really like the humour and actors in this drama. some episodes werent as good as others but it was still enjoyable to watch. i new series would be good but i dont think that will happen. i remember them saying that not all the cast wanted to make a new series. im not sure if it got very high reviews/ viewing ratings but i did like seeing all the different aspects of the army base in germany and the sort or crimes they have to deal with (whether some of the scenes were farfetched or not).moreless
  • 'Red Cap' while potraying a decent image of army life did not achieve the goal of being an exciting crime series. Was this just a show to fill in a time slot for the BBC?moreless

Perhaps not one of the best offerings television has had, but through its 13 episode spell, Red Cap did provide some insight to how the military police operates. The cases handled were interesting and did not stray away from the central idea that was army life. Having been in the army myself, it was refreshing to see the producers allowing the show to be portrayed in a realistic manner. This series had characters that while given interesting backgrounds, in my opinion were not given any really exciting situations to deal with other than the murder cases. Apart from a romantic involvement between the two leading cast members (Tamzin Outhwaite & James Thornton) the episodes only really stayed on track trying to find the usual ‘murderer’.

I may be a little harsh on the show, but compared to other top dramas in its genre, ‘Red Cap’ does not keep up. It was watchable and recommended viewing for the crime buffs that love the ‘who dunnit’ story lines. And how many criminals can you keeping popping out from the same army camp? The answer can explain the longevity of this show.
