  • Trivia

    • As Starbug takes off from the cargo bay, the TARDIS from Doctor Who can briefly be seen.

    • During Cat's "Pursuit of Clothes" line Lister changes the position of his head without moving!

    • When the Remote-Lister is moved to the supply cabinet Low Rimmer (A Hologram) Has his hand on the cabinet!

    • Low Cat tells Lister "Nothing Works here man!" So how is Low Holly up and running? Response: He doesn't mean that literally. They just work poorly (like Holly and Red Dwarf itself).

    • While on the Low Dwarf Rimmer hits his foot on something when he tries to do some stunt...How does a HOLOGRAM do this? Response: He grasps his leg more like someone pulling a muscle.

    • Kryten Says he will catch Lister and Cat up but he and Rimmer are already in the High Dwarf when they arive!

    • Even though this is episode 5 the videos said it was episode 2!.

    • The Low Cat doesn't have any fangs when he and the other Lows look down at Lister, nor does he have his extra Eybrows when he watches Lister killing the remaining Highs.

    • When the "High" Cat explains his reasons of wearing unfasionable clothes to the real Cat he has a (Slight) angry tone in his voice, despite the fact that anger is a BAD emotion that a "High" shouldn't have.

    • In the scene where Lister is knocked out by Low Rimmer and the Lows look down on him you can see a microphone apear just infront of Low Lister if you look hard enough!

    • The implant only affects the body not the mind so knocking Lister out shouldn't stop him from attacking.

    • On Starbug Kryten says that he threw the triplicator into reverse, whereas it was actually Lister that did it, while Kryten stood by and watched. Perhaps Kryten's Ego Mode accidentally switched itself on.

    • While tasting the pot noodle, Lister talks about playing pool with planets which he did in White Hole, but the events of that episode were reversed at the end so he shouldn't remember it.
Response Kryten said that he (or anyone) had never seen a white hole before so his statement about no one rememebering it might be false so there's a 50% chance that Lister does remember the incident.

    • When the remote controlled Lister swings the axe at Cat and hits the door frame, the axe head clearly bends. When he manages to pull it out, the axe is now repaired.

  • Quotes

    • High Kryten: Welcome, brothers! We bring you food and medical supplies! (Low Lister blasts him) Poor devil! His gun must have gone off accidently. Welcome, my children, we bring you balms and teachures! (Low Lister blasts him twice) We wish to sing you healing hymns! (Another two blasts, and High Kryten falls)
      Lister: Is he dead?
      Rimmer: We can only hope.
High Kryten: Oh, the poor wretch! It's a faulty gun; He's accidently shot me five times. Oh, how I love him!
High Cat: Brother, there is a grievious fault with thy weapon. It keepeth shooting people. (Low Lister blasts him) you see? There it goes again!

    • Lister: What do you want with me?
Low Rimmer: I want to hurt you.
      Lister: Why?
Low Rimmer: Because I'm not a very nice person.

    • Kryten: These are our Higher selves. They're the people we could have become if all the negative aspects of our personalities were removed.
      Rimmer: You mean hippies?
Kryten With respect sir, you think Jesus was a hippy.
Rimmer Well he was. He had long hair, and he didn't have a job. What more do you want?

    • Low Rimmer: (to Lister) I'm going to lash you to within an inch of your life, and then... I'm going to have you!

    • Cat: Hey guys, I think they're playing our tune, the Ahwooga Waltz! Anyone care to join me in a quickstep?

    • Holly: Rude alert! Rude alert! An electrical fire has knocked out my voice recognition unicycle! Many Wurlitzers are missing from my database! Abandon shop! This is not a daffodil. Repeat: This is not a daffodil!
      Rimmer: Well, thankfully Holly's unaffected.

    • Cat: I found Goalpost-Head. No sign of Dormouse-Cheeks, though.
Kryten: Sir, we were so worried. What happened?
Rimmer: We were ambushed by a platoon of Lows. I was leading a valiant rearguard action.
Cat: I found him shivering in a box.
Rimmer: It was tactical manoeuvre to outfox the enemy.
Cat: As was using his uniform as a temporary latrine.

  • Notes

    • The working title for this episode was "High & Low."

    • Kryten mentions that the Triplicator has been adapted from the Matter Paddle, seen in the season 4 episode "Meltdown"

    • The "Lister" that gets shot out of the cupboard is not Craig Charles. It is a double played by Jake Abraham, the same actor who played the "New" Lister in "The Inquisitor".

    • This was the first episode, in production sequence, directed by newcomer Juliet May. Due to her inexperience and the demands of a sitcom heavy in FX and confusing sci-fi concepts (epsecially this one which is chock full of split screen takes), the producers and May mutually agreed that it would be better if she was relieved of the duty. May directed the first four recorded episodes and the Esperanto scenes in 'Back to Reality' and Rob Grant and Doug Naylor stepped in to direct the bulk of the remaining two episodes of the season.

    • BBC Visual Effects destroyed their last model of Red Dwarf (the first having been wrecked after falling off a shelf at the BBC) for the sequence where Kryten's triplicator destroys the ship. The production made sure that all model sequences involving Red Dwarf had been completed. Another model was never built, as the ship is never seen in Season 6 (the running plot has it having been stolen), the shots of Red Dwarf from the end of Season 7 were archive footage, and a computer generated Red Dwarf was used from Season 8.

  • Allusions

    • Visual Reference: Low Rimmer

Low Rimmer's costume is reminiescient of Dr. Frank N. Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

    • Visual reference: Stabbing scene

The scene and jarring chords when normal Lister is stabbing High Lister is a direct parody of the famed shower scene from Hitchcock's Psycho.

    • Rimmer: I don't think the Nobel Prize people have a fruit section, but if they do, I'm sure you're this year's hot tip.

Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) was a swedish engineer and chemist who made the discovery of dynamite in 1867. After his death the fortune he made from his invention went toward an annual prize for achievement in science and the arts starting from 1901. The Nobel Prizes are awarded in six categories: Chemistry, Physics, Literature, Medicine, Economics and Peace.
