Can't wait. Though I am a little worried about which cast members will be appearing. Will we see Holly or Kochanski again?

Just went and checked it out on Wikipedia myself and all I can say is that this is amazing - especially since Back To Earth only starting airing here in Oz last night.

Hope they go back to the old format of using a studio though. Back to Earth and season 7 weren't shot in front of a live audience, and they really suffered for it. I want them to bring back classic Dwarf if they really are going to bring it back.

Your source is wikipedia? Don't be a moron, remember how Wikipedia is edited by anyone with a computer, and notice that the 'information' has no real source?

Unless it's announced on TOS, I'll consider it... well, toss.

Just seen this on reddwarf.co.uk: http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2011/04/15/new-series-of-red-dwarf-confirmed/

    :

    The facts are:

*The series will feature Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten, once again played by Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn. (Y'know, unless anyone starts demanding a gold-plated dressing room or something.)

*Each episode will be approximately 30 minutes in duration. This is a big difference from the 23 minute episodes of Back to Earth. To compensate for this fuller length and commercial break, the new episodes will be shown in a 40 minute slot, much as current Dwarf repeats are on Dave.

*There will be six episodes in the series. The numbering of 'Series X' being both a pretty good promotional title for the channel, and technically correct since Back to Earth was a 'ninth series'.

*Shooting will take place this coming November, December and January, with broadcast slated for September 2012. That apparent delay is born of common sense - after its complex post-production, Red Dwarf X would be ready to broadcast in the summer, but that's a time of low audiences. An autumn launch will make the very most of Dave's new commission.

I'm disappointed that Holly isn't back and that they still don't appear to be resolving the Season 8 cliffhanger, but most of all that they are including the awful Back To Earth as season 9, which should really be encased in a lead box and fired directly into the sun, never to be seen again!

So is anyone really excited about this, or more hesitant, but trying really hard to remain optimistic? I'll watch, of course, and unlike most Red Dwarf fans I loved series 7 and 8, but I didn't much enjoy what they did with Back To Earth. What sort of story lines do you think they'll be trying to do now? Yeah, it is a little disappointing that they often don't seem to care too much for continuity and just decide to do whatever suits (alright so this series Red Dwarf is missing, oh no wait, we found it, and the entire crew has been resurrected???). I'll be annoyed if they don't answer series 8's ending, but as technically another 'season' has already happened in between, I doubt it.

For a short run Back to Earth was not that bad. There are ways that they can deal with season 8 the first year, reshow Back to Earth during the summer and pick up from their the 2nd season.
